Obamacare

So, I have Obamacare. I applied and the tax credit is paying for a good chunk of my coverage (I pay the remaining $50). I just got a letter from my insurance provider. My premium will be going up to $80.

So I got two options, I can keep my current coverage NOT reapply and pay the $80.

Or reapply. But, I got a $1 raise at work this year. So, based on the estimation calculator thing, I'll be getting a smaller tax credit. And my plans will be higher. So my estimated premium is $101 a month. But that is not 100% sure (I am unsure if Obamacare accounts for things other than age + income in the real application).

Thoughts on Obamacare in general or my problem?

So, today my aunt told my mum that my cousin had a baby...3 months ago. We're not close, but, I'd have at least expected a card I guess. Only shows how estranged we really are.

In any case, she's the first of my first cousins to have a child - so yeah, that was a sort of unexpected thing to find out about.

I feel like a piece of shit today

So…warning for animal death.

Today I had to kill baby mice. And I pretty much feel like scum right now. I don't know why it got to me so much today. I've had to sacrifice mice before and I've seen baby mice killed before as well.

It just felt so pointless though. Before, at least when I killed the mice, it was to advance some goal -- to excise their tumors or to remove organs necessary for our experiments.

But for these baby mice today, I had to kill them because we spoke to the lab we got its mother from and apparently we crossed her with the wrong male. So we have to kill the babies since they're taking up space and they can't be utilized in experiments.

And it just sucks. It feels so fucking pointless. And I just feel so bad because they were sitting in their cage happily with their mom until I swooped in and cut their heads off. (They were younger than 14 days so the method of euthanasia is decapitation).

They were so cute and I just hate that this is how things have to be. I just feel like such utter shit because they deserved better than what they got.

America currently cannot even send a man into space, it has to pay Russia to hitch a ride on its Soyuz rockets if it wants to send an American to the ISS.

We're all familiar with how boring history can be to learn at times, but loads of people love travelogues where dumbasses go to another country and fail at everything bar snobbery. As some English dude once said, the past is another country. A group of travellers from a civilized Roman Empire (although quite clearly they are meant to be us, as their attitudes are very much in line with modern sensibilities and not the Eastern Roman Empire) take a tour Dark Age Britain and Ireland and we learn the history of the peoples in the area. Its equal parts history book, travelogue, and comedy. Strongly recommended.

I stopped watching the show after they got together because of a multitude of reasons. I realized I couldn't stand Nathan Fillion anymore, couldn't really believe the fact that they'd just let this writer tag along on cases for years, and I couldn't handle the sappiness of the show.
