I said your comment in a thread yesterday and I suspect it's the same anon that was asking about this a while back. If it's not the same anon, I apologize and feel free to skip the rest of this.

What bothers me is that you're still asking the same questions even though people answered you the first, second and perhaps third time. I was one of them. What's up, anon? For example, you asked again if type 2 diabetes was reversible, because you heard (from... somwhere?) it wasn't. As I told you months and months ago, if your type 2 diabetes was brought on by weight gain, it can go away in the sense that if you get your weight down low enough and maintain a sensible diet, you won't necessarily have to take metformin for the rest of your life. You won't be able to go crazy and binge on carbs and ice cream with no consequences, but you CAN manage this if you put the work in. It has to be a lifestyle change.

My aunt did this, and she was actually on insulin. A gastric bypass and 75+ lbs later, she's off it. I'm currently on metformin and have dropped 35 lbs. over the past couple years. My doc said that if I keep going, I can stop the meds. It doesn't give me gastric issues (after an initial adjustment period) though, so it's not as big of a deal to me.

So diet sensibly, control your portions and exercise regularly. Not overindulging on carbs/sugar will also help lessen the nasty side effects of metformin, IME. Google results you need to look at:

I appreciate that sometimes people want firsthand info from people who've experienced it, but you've already had several rounds of that and for some reason you don't want to listen to the feedback you asked for. I urged you to read up on your condition because it will help you feel less confused and frustrated about what's going on as well as less depressed about your future. The information is readily available a few clicks away. It's better to light a candle than curse the darkness, anon.

I'm currently in a very awkward position.

I've been working in my dream job (has something to do with SDCC but won't go into details) for about a year now, but I'm transferring to another city in a few weeks.

In my job, I'm used to seeing people at work who are working in our line of job because they love it.
They don't just do it because it's a job. To most of us, it's our blood and soul.

My boss has been pretty consistent in hiring people who actually want the job, and generally been very strict in that everyone has to work hard or they've got to go.
My boss is currently on vacation and won't return until 2 months from now.
Just before the vacation, we got a new hire. Thing is... Our newest hire? She doesn't want to do jack shit.

She's on her phone, talking to her friends, all day every day.
Last week I hear her complain (quite audibly, I might add) to her friends how "we do nothing". We. As in her and everyone else at our work.
Me and my co-workers are busting our asses off, and even though it doesn't always look like it since a lot of it involves computer-work, I've been sleeping 4 hours every night for the past month. That's how swamped with work we are.

I get that she's young and this is her second job ever but C'MON. JFC.

When my boss comes back and sees her doing nothing? She's gonna get sacked. And heaven help me, I don't want that. I actually feel sorry for the poor girl.
She's socially awkward (know-it-all, talks over people, can't take a hint, everything is black and white to her re politics and gender issues etc, still going through that awkward "gay boys are yaoi teehee can't you see I'm progressive?" phase), and the only thing she enjoys participating in is fandom talk.
I wouldn't mind the fandom talk if it wasn't constant. I disagree with her on a lot of fandom things but keep my mouth shut because she gets very defensive and argumentative.

Basically, she's your typical shut-in nerd. I can sympathize, because I used to be like that. Kinda. A little bit like that. Maybe I still am.


I'm not sure what I can do to help her? Like... how do you motivate someone? How did she even pass the job interview?
Ugh. I'm super stressed and I've never had to deal with this kinda situation before.

Am I the only one who's noticed no one on FB is talking about Charleston?

I'm in Baltimore, and when the "riots" (YMMV as to whether that term is accurate) occurred, all anyone did was talk about racism and privilege. But none of those same people have mentioned one thing about the shooting in Charleston. It surprises me, and bothers me a bit too.

Ship War Question

OK, secret #1 made me curious. This is an observation I had and I wonder if this is true or if it's my bias maybe.

I'm a huge slash fan, and I've seen some nasty ship wars in my day for sure, but I have never seen shippers descend on each other as viciously as when two concurrent het ships are involved. Like, whether it's Harmonians or Zutara, or the one in the secret, or very recently Clint/Natasha vs. Bruce/Natasha - idk, it seems to be brutal. The only time I was actively involved in a fandom that sorta had this was Community of all things, where the Jeff/Annie and Jeff/Britta fans were so unspeakably nasty to each other that I kinda tiptoed backwards out of there. (FTR, I liked both.)

I mean, there's big rival slash ships too - like idk Tony/Steve, Steve/Bucky, Steve/Sam etc. in the MCU - but I rarely see the fans go at it like that.

This isn't a thing where I'm trying to say that slash fans are inherently more reasonable than het fans (I know enough to know that ain't true lol), but I still wonder, why do so many het ship wars explode like that? Is it because the fanbases are bigger? Is it because the chance for canon validation is bigger? (And why do people care about canon validation? But OK, different topic.) Or am I wrong and there really is no difference at all?

I just need to vent

It's late so probably no one will see this, but I just need to get this off my chest.

One of our cars needed to go into the shop. I find out tonight that SO scheduled it to go in for tomorrow. I asked him why he didn't try to schedule it for Tuesday, because I have it off and he KNOWS that. He said his concern was getting the first available appointment and "making it work." He didn't even ASK if they had any other dates or times available, he just said "yes" the minute the guy said, "our first available day is Monday."

He works half an hour in one direction. I work half an hour in the other. So now, I have to get up nearly two fucking hours early to drive him to work, and he's going to get there over two hours before his office even opens (we're doing it this way because he at least has a key to his work and can go inside. I don't have a key to my own office).

I know I should have talked it through with him tonight, so we could try to reschedule, and I didn't think to. That's on me. But what the fuck. I don't understand how he thought this was a good idea, or why it was apparently so fucking hard for him to just ask if there were any other days available and try to schedule something that worked with the obligations we already have instead of doing...this. There's no reason for us to have to fucking do this. We're not gonna die if we go one or two extra days without the other fucking car. I mean, we're not gonna die from this, either, but it's inconvenient and annoying and it doesn't make any sense.
