My cat :(

I was the anon that posted about having a sick cat, who had an appointment at a clinic Thursday. The clinic wanted his bloodwork already done when he came, so they vet did it this morning. Later he called us and said that our cat had severe liver disease, which we hadn't known about (we thought he might have cancer) and he really can't be saved.

He's really the sweetest cat, the complete opposite of the "aloof" cat stereotype, he loved everyone and was so affectionate. He liked to sit on peoples' backs if they were lying down on their stomach, and if I wouldn't let him sit on my lap for some reason, he'd jump onto my shoulders instead.

We actually found him a week after my mom had to put her old cat to sleep. he just showed up on our porch, very malnourished, and stayed after I gave him some food. We've had him for about 12 years.

Pop songs

Got favorite pop songs (guiltily or not)? Lately I have not been able to stop listening to "You Lift Me Up" by Mikey Wax and "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten.

You Lift Me Up is really quite catchy and fun. Fight Song is just very pedestrian and I wish I didn't like it as much as I did. But I guess it's not bad as a follow-up to Roar and Brave in the slate of pedestrian pop songs I'm stuck on.

Health Insurance

That time of the year again. The Marketplace has started sending me health insurance notices. And since I got a raise at work, I'll only be getting like $30 of help this year. Which means I can't afford any plans that will cover medication (cheapest being $141 a month). So now I have to figure out if I should ask my boss to lower how much I earn or not. YAY!

I've seriously thought about marrying someone who makes little money just so that I can get more money to pay for insurance. But I am not sure how illegal that is.

What are those things/people that make you angry as fuck but that you can't express for various reason (have to be nice, can't be angry at the object of your anger, etc)?

I was helping my mom with a computer problem and watching her made me want to pull my hair out. Every time she went to a new site, she would hit the back button until she got to Google, would search the website, and click on it from there. I've tried showing her how to do it the normal way but it won't stick. All I can do is scream inside my own head and hope to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

I'm renting at the moment, and a bunch of vegetables have self-seeded in the garden, as well as weeds. Well, this blueish thistly ugly thing, three of them, punched their way out of the earth and grew up to my hip in a very short space of time. Didn't know what they were, thought they were thistles or artichokes maybe. Anyway, today one of them unfolds a beautiful pink flower...

%#@%$!! I've got opium poppies in my garden. Which are... not legal. I guess the pensioner who used to live here had a good time.

I should uproot them and chuck em out immediately, but on the other hand no one can see them from the street, and they're going to be pretty once all the flowers are out... and I'm just a bit curious about maybe putting some in my tea... and um... yeah...

Crutches Advice?

Harry Potter

The new illustrated edition for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone came out yesterday and my copy arrived today. It's breathtaking. This book is absolutely gorgeous and anyone with an interest in Harry Potter should get a look at one. The book is quite large but there are illustrations EVERYWHERE.

I can't wait to sit down and read through the entire book now.

I know this is so late no one but insomniacs and Australians will see it, but I just found my roommate sprawled out face up on the bathroom floor. Luckily not dead, and when I asked if she'd hit her head she said no. I've seen her drunk before but honestly this looks like drugs. My mom is currently in a convalescent hospital recovering from a concussion, but she had been on heavy duty drugs to ease her way through alcohol withdrawal that I was supposed to dole out, because my mom can't really be trusted around drugs either, so I'd kept the bottles at my place--I live within 5 minutes walking distance. I just hope the roommate wasn't dumb enough to treat the pills like fun-time drugs; hopefully she's just really drunk. ... If my roommate wasn't basically my adopted sister I'd kick her out; I'm up to here with addicts and users. Plus she has a really nasty object lesson in why not to be an addict in my mother. And her mom and dad and my dad and ... okay, so maybe she just didn't have any good role models. Oh well, I'm staying at my mom's to watch her dog. I'll just make sure the roommate's up off the floor before I go in to work tomorrow.
