Does anyone have transitional lenses? How do you like them? I managed to get some for free, but the response I've seen is very negative, my dad says they don't change when they're supposed to (Totally forgot he had them).

maybe-asexual anon, are you out there?

I'm curious about an update from the anon who thought maybe they were asexual and were planning on sitting down and talking about it with their BF. Are you out there? Have you talked? How did he handle it?

Other people snoring...

(Anonymous) 2012-08-31 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
My Mother's snoring is awful. It's always been pretty bad, but it feels like it's somehow worse these days. She's tried basically everything and nothing helps. Earplugs don't work for me at all, I can still hear her over them. The only way I can actually guarantee a good night's sleep when I'm here is ifI fall asleep before she does.

I really want to go to sleep now but I cannot sleep through the noise at all. I'm only at home on the weekends and I'm just irritable for the whole three days because of it. It sucks :-(

Old secret about a male pornstar?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-31 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a weird question, but a looong time ago, back when we were still on LJ there was a thread were people linked to their favourite porn online and there was talk about a specific male porn actor. I think there was a secret about the actor in question and that's how the whole thread started.

Does that ring bells for anyone? I'm looking for a particular vid that was linked, but can't find the thread anymore and google is not my friend in this. :(

Vote for Trobed, please?

[identity profile] cherrycoloured.livejournal.com 2012-08-31 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi! So a few days ago, I posted about AfterElton's slash tournament. Things were going pretty well for Troy/Abed's bracket, moving from 7000 votes behind to 5000 votes ahead in two days, until yesterday, when voting was limited to once per hour due in every bracket. Since then, out competitor has caught up and we've been neck and neck with them. There hasn't been more than a twenty vote difference between the two pairings.

Voting ends tonight and midnight EST, and it would be super awesome if you guys could put in a vote for Troy/Abed here (http://www.afterelton.com/poll/2012/08/ultimate-slash-madness-tourney-round-one?page=1,2). If you wanted to actually vote once an hour until poll closed that would be above and beyond fantastic, but even one vote would be really helpful. If you wanted me to put in a vote for one of your pairs in return, I'd do that too as my only other ship in this competition is Sterek.

Thanks :)

Fandomsecrets, are you introvert or extrovert people? (Or middleground?)

Extrovert people gets energy from being with others. Being alone leaves them restless, and even if you're just going to sit with a computer each in the same room, they want company.

Introvert people gets drained of energy by being around other people, and they need alone time to "recharge".

It has nothing to do with being social, I love spending a lot of time with my friends, but I'm also quite introvert, so I sometimes leave parties an hour early just to get some time alone before I sleep.

Weird Brain Thing

[personal profile] biohazardgirl 2012-08-31 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
This is going to make me sound like a total wimp.

I am really fine with calmly talking about most controversial things. I think sharing ideas is important, and I think everyone has something worthwhile to add to the collective opinions of the world etc.

However.

Whenever I (am forced to) discuss evolution with hardcore creationists, I end up either irrationally angry for days or in an existential crisis of "is anything real then, really?" I just feel so stupid because I don't feel like I can properly explain the argument out of the blue and they have their plan for their argument all wrapped up in their brain and then I flounder and they make me question whether I can trust if anything is scientifically valid and they're like "the answer is God" and I'm like "I have mixed feelings about God" and then I just feel confused and angry and shitty for days.

Is there a polite way of telling hardcore people that I just don't want to talk about it? I know I sound really intolerant and wimpy and 'cry moar', but it just fucks with my brain.

What about you, also f!S? Do you have anything weird that it really stresses you out to argue about?

Minecraft on YouTube

(Anonymous) 2012-08-31 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anyone watch any Minecraft casters on YouTube? I have a hardcore nerd!crush on paulsoaresjr, who basically got me into the whole game. He's amazeballs and I would've died within the first minute had I not watched some of his shit first.

Then my OH got me into LagCraft (lifesaglitchtv2 - he watches their StarCraft videos on their other channel) and I'm now obsessed with them as well. I spend most of it hiding behind my hands because of the amount of fail, but there's so much epic bromance going on there that I can't help myself. Plus it's some of the funniest stuff I've ever witnessed when it comes to two people basically failing at a video game.

If you don't, do you watch anything else like this for other games? (Stuff like Let's Plays, etc.) I used to watch a heck of a lot of building tutorials for The Sims 3, but I can't think of anything more dull than watching people straight up play the game...

I'll admit it. I love mpreg. I have no shame. I love love love love love love it. I even like the totally ridiculous ones where the pregnant character gets every single pregnancy symptom ever and cries and cries while eating ice-cream topped with pickles. I especially love the angsty ones, the more angst the better.

So, FS, do you like mpreg? Why or why not? If why, link us to some awesome mpreg. I could always do with more mpreg in my life. LOL

wow a loner on the internet how novel

(Anonymous) 2012-08-31 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I spend most of my time on the internet, and yet I have hardly any friends to talk to. That is to say I have several social networking accounts and I am terrible at social networking. Then I just feel really alone and I don't know how to make any friends and I see all these people with their tumblrs where they just reblog each other and make jokes and literally no one talks to me on tumblr apart from maybe one person who is my friend irl who just sometimes uses the ask box as a contact device.
It just feels really pointless and I feel like I should really just delete every single account I have because sometimes it all just makes me feel sad rather than happy. And it's stupid that I get overworked about these things in the first place. I just... I feel sad about the internet. Should I delete some accounts or what? I doubt I will ever make many friends because I'm just so terrible at it and I feel so alone.

In completely unrelated news, my cat has been missing for five days and I expected I would end up going to fs asking for happy things to cheer me up, but she turned up today! She's a bit worse for wear but I just have to wonder where on earth she went and what happened that caused her to not come home for so long. Cats, amirite? What do they get up to???

I'm not sure why I shared all that but what the hell

Weirdest/Most Ridiculous Injury

(Anonymous) 2012-08-31 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
So, a thread in another forum got me thinking about how sometimes you can get injuries doing the simplest, most routine things ever or even doing nothing. I'm curious as to what everyone's most ridiculous injury is. XD

For me, I dislocated my thumb once while digging through my purse for a pack of gum.

Have You Ever Read The Bible Cover to Cover?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-31 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm doing it right now, out of intellectual curiosity. I'm actually Jewish but I'm reading the NIV, which includes new testament. My mom always says that western civilization is built on the Judeo-Christian Bible, Greek Myth, and Roman Law, so any educated person should have a working knowledge of all three. I went through my Greek History phase when I was about ten, and Roman law isn't quite organized to a few sources, is it? So right now I'm tackling the Bible. If I ever get through it I think I'm gonna go at The Talmud next.

I read two portions a day and right now I'm on Chronicles. The last few days have been very boring genealogical records. This part also seems to be about recapping Kings, but that was pretty interesting, so we'll see...

I tried but it was so damned boring and illogical I stopped pretty shortly into it.

I was reading a blog that was by a woman who decided to do this. It was pretty hilarious. I've lost the link but I'll try and track it down.

Help me, F!S! You're my only hope!!

So, my problem is this. My daughter is 15. She spent the night at a friends a couple days ago and her friend had the 50 shades books, and so they were reading them.

Now my daughter seems to think they're fine and dandy, and while i don't see *any* redeeming qualities in them at all, i'm not going to call her out on reading 'trashy, poorly written' fiction, or anything like that. I *do*, however, want to get my feelings across on the nature of the 'relationship' in that book, and how it's not exactly something to celebrate or emulate or condone.

But - i'm the mom. Can anybody here give me a concise, non-ranty explanation about that relationship that points out the flaws in a way that isn't condescending or devolves into 'this book sucks!!' kind of stuff? She's gonna read what she's gonna read, and i've never censored her reading, but i *do* want her to have an alternate perspective on this. Or - point me to a good post or blog about it that's not super-long, as she's not happy about being 'lectured' on the subject right now, and i just want something she can think about, not something that tries to make her feel stupid or bad.

(Deleted and reposted in the right spot, yeesh.)

(A+ subject line, btw :D)

I'm not sure how to give a concise, non-ranty explanation, but I'm fresh enough from my teenage years to remember that what was most effective on me and my younger sister was nonconfrontational statements that made me think that mature, intelligent people would laugh at me if they knew I held a certain opinion — saying stuff like "oh yes, well, I know that obviously that relationship is totally ridiculous and messed up, but I guess that's part of the fun, huh?"

So you're not talking down to her in a way that might make her feel like you're lecturing or being patronizing or telling her what to think, and not telling her that she should feel bad for liking the book, but making it clear (while pretending to be kind of oblivious and actually purposely making it appear that you're overestimating her intelligence and assuming she's extremely mature and smart) that smart, mature, reasonable people think it's blindingly obvious that the relationship is ridiculous and screwed-up, and that you assume she's a smart, mature, reasonable person too.

Avoid words like "dangerous" or "unhealthy" — most fifteen-year-olds won't respond to an idea their parents say is dangerous by taking their word at it — they'll either be annoyed and feel you're lecturing them or being hyperbolic, or they'll immediately think it's code of "cool" and set off to explore it. If she's perceptive, seeing you act like it's obvious that the relationship is a screwed-up one might make her think "huh what?" and either look at the book with fresh eyes or google around to figure out why it sucks. And since you're not telling her that the book sucks or telling her what to think, she'll be far less likely to resist or lash out or be offended or dismissive. Or she might even ask you about it (most teenage girls won't, but you never know.)

What does and does not fall under the label of "queer"?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-01 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
I know this is something that's been debated to death, but I was wondering what everyone here thought.

I've seen some people say anything "not mainstream" could be considered queer, and that, for example, a straight person into non-mainstream things (in the context of sexuality, that is) would fit the definition, while other people say it only applies if you're attracted to the same sex in some capacity (gay/bi/pan/whatever, but not straight). I've seen quite a few people on Tumblr who are adamant that if you're only into the opposite sex you have no right to identify as queer no matter what, but Tumblr is not always an accurate gauge of...anything, really, so I was curious.

What do you think qualifies?

I don't have any strong views on it nor do I care how people self-identify, but I would be really confused if I heard "queer" used to refer to anyone who wasn't attracted to their own gender. I mean, other than the old definition of the word that meant "odd", anyway.
