So, what is something, that when you think about it, you just get sad and nostalgic?

For me it would be the little MMO Glitch. It wasn't big (hence why it shut down), but it had a great community and was fun to play.

What is the thing that gets you sad and nostalgic?

I was adding an old fic to my AO3 account, and wanted to properly tag it -- but hell if I can find a canonical tag that suits it! The fic has character A in love with B, but he spends years keeping silent and never expressing said feelings. In the end it's of course revealed that B feels the same way, yadda yadda. So what's the best tag for this? I tried everything from "hidden emotions" to "secret love" and so on, yet I came up with nothing. In the end I just tagged it with "unvoiced feelings", but I'm certain there must be a canonical tag for this. I mean, it's hardly an unusual plot!

But that would necessitate infidelity on her part, and it's wrong to want that, right?

Anyone else got grey-area kinks? And do you think conscience or YOLO would win out if opportunity ever came your way?

Fic progress

Today I've spent an hour fantasizing about a fic I'm working on and about 15 minutes actually working on it. That seems lopsided. I just don't know why I don't actually want to write it when I'm not writing it.

My process so far has been, every time I complete something, like this comment for example, I look at the clock. If I'm at an even 5-minute point, I blast off a 15-minute free-write. I have to tell myself "You are doing a free write! Stop thinking!!!" and just go, though. Otherwise I'll spend 20 minutes agonizing over how to START a scene. Whereas now I can just say "They went to lunch. When they got there..." and eventually get into a rhythm and flow that includes words that are not the worst writing I've ever done, and ideally I'll end up in a groove where I just keep on writing until the muse takes a break.

So how's your fic progress going, FS? Any tricks you use to get and/or keep going?

I can't fall asleep unless I daydream myself as a Mary Sue in some sort of h/c scenario where "I" almost die doing something totally heroic that nobody else would have been crazy enough to try.

Giving away a computer--how to delete everything first?

I know this is really late and I'm not sure if anyone will even see it but I thought it was worth a shot.

My mom has a computer she no longer uses and wants to give to her friend. She wants to delete everything off it first but obviously wants her friend to still be able to use it. Everything I've seen says that the only way you can delete everything is to also delete the operating system. She doesn't want her friend to have to go out and buy a new copy of Windows but also doesn't want any personal data still on there where someone can recover it.

It also worries me because I gave a computer away years ago after using a program (I can't remember what it was) that claimed to delete all personal info, but I'm pretty sure Windows was still on it so I'm now wondering if the people who ended up with it were able to get any of my information from it.

So is it really impossible to delete personal information without also uninstalling Windows? Or is there a way around that?

Just reformat the hard drive, taking it back to factory specs, and unless your mom's friend is some sort of IT computer person, she won't be the slightest bit able to dig through the computers brain to find whatever scraps of whatever might still be lingering.
