We are watching Back Woods, which is actually worse than I remember it being (as I discovered during my pre-stream check this morning) and After Last Season.

These are the absolute worst movies I've ever seen. They are horrible on multiple levels. You know you are curious. So, come to my stream and find out just how bad something has to be to make even me label these as abominations. (Anyone who knows me knows that I'm very lenient on bad movies.)

If you make it through the pain we will watch this awesome movie about Renaissance fair jousting motorcyclists starring Ed Harris' sweet ass and directed by George "Holy shit the zombie movie guy made this" Romero.

I told my sister about my trichotillomania. It just came out in conversation. We were talking about personal grooming, and I just thought "What the hell, go for it." She was really cool about it. She asked some questions, and I explained some things, and it wasn't anything uncomfortable at all. The next day, business as usual.

I don't feel better, but I don't feel any worse for having done it. She's the first person I've told outside of anonymous internet confessions such as this one... I don't think I'm going to go around telling everyone now, but it's good to have it out there somewhere, I guess.

Trayvon Martin Case:WTF

So, I recently was looking into this case, and wow. His parents are a-holes.

He wasn't even living with his parents, but with his aunt and uncle. A short time after his death, his mother trademarked his name. Both his parents then went around collecting large sums of money in donations.

The media is also really pushing for Zimmerman to be white. While he is half-white, he clearly looks Hispanic/identifies as Latino. What also is weird is that the media keeps showing lighter and lighter images of Zimmerman, I don't really get why. I also cringed when I learned that there had been enough time for Trayvon to walk home while Zimmerman was on the phone. He instead circled back to fight him. If he had just gone home...

Treasure Island: Screen Versions

Since I caught Stevenson fever, I'm just going to bring in a more popular work; Kidnapped is, of course, obscure and poorly liked. (rather to my regret)

Treasure Island seems to be much luckier when it comes to filming adaptations; I have not seen a single version of Kidnapped that was entirely to my liking, but in this case I saw three excellent works (having watched five).

The 1934 turned out to be brilliant; although Jim was just a wee bit stupider than I thought him upon reading the book, and all the actors had this peculiar accent that sounded as though each of them had a pan full of stew on their face and had to speak through it. [Jim's was the fullest one, by the way]. There's also an extremely handsome and very much in-character Dr. Livesey and a picturesque Silver. Of course this adaptation developed the relationship between Hawkins and Silver far beyond the constraints set by the original work; but I cannot blame it for doing so; this seems to be the part that has the most potential to be developed into something interesting, what with Silver's moral ambivalency.

[To my mind, more's the pity. I friend-ship Dr. Livesey and Jim like burning, and it makes me bitter that none of the adaptations pays as much attention to this dynamics as they do to that of Silver and Jim]

The Disney (film) version is also very, very good and quite canonical; my only complaint is that everyone appeared to be strangely clean for a party that went a-treasure-hunting on an empty wild island.
And of course the last remark of Dr. Livesey's is adorable. Awww.
I don't know why they had to injure Jim, though - was it to make the film more dramatic? But it failed to add any drama that was absent in the previous adaptation, in which things went the way they were in the canon.

More versions in the comments, I think; what's your opinion on Treasure Island adaptations, f!s? The crazy Soviet animation? The equally crazy 2012 version?..

[and I've always wanted Blind Pew to be more expressive and frightening than in the films! The only one that succeeded was, I think, the 1982 Soviet one. And the only version in which Black Dog actually looks like a black dog is the one from 1934. Wasted potential, if you ask me.]

Fitting Timing Since it Seems to be Fitness Day Here

I spent yesterday and today doing intensive military style stress circuits.

It's the most physically exhausting thing I've ever done in my life. We literally couldn't stop moving for the entire time, cycling between dozens of combat drills, running repeat laps of a parade square in full kit in the blazing heat, crawling hundreds of meters under wire, getting class penalties if someone screwed up FMJ style. All the while with music blaring loud enough we couldn't hear ourselves think, expecting us to carry out complicated multi stage actions, and trainers randomly attacking people so they defended themselves, and completely destroying anyone who made the most minor of mistakes (you fucking useless cumdumster, who the hell gave you a passed you as competent on that move, I'll fail you out of the course right now etc).

And I have to say, it was the most exhilarating thing I've done in ages. Grin on my face the whole time, and managed to be part of the only pair not to get pulled out on anything (out of a class of 50+).

Six days on antidepressants and I'm just so tired, all I want is crawl into my bed, maybe read bits of young adult novels, and sleep. I don't know how I'll find the energy to drag myself to my therapist's appointment next week if it keeps on like this.

Not a secret: This is one of my most favorite "guilty pleasure" songs.
Secret: I found Jessie J to be so repulsive and ridiculous in this video, it almost ruined the song for me. What redeemed it? How attractive I found HER [outlined person in the picture] to be.
