Hello! Just stopping by to visit - I know there should already be cute animal pics and stuff, but I figured more cute wouldn't hurt!

Anyway, I was at a charity walk cum adoption thing recently, so here are some photos I took of the dogs and puppies there! All of the ones here were from the shelter that conducted the thing. The vast majority of them are mutts / whoknowswhat breeds, and were taken in from the street. Some have been adopted, but most are still looking for homes.

Star Trek: TOS fic

Despite being a long-time Star Trek fan, I have somehow never read a single TOS fic. I have read fic for every other incarnation of Trek, including one reboot fic, even though I don't care about the reboot.

At this point it has become overwhelming and I don't know where to start. What are the classics that have made it to the internet from zine days? What are the big ones popular these days?

Basically, I need to be hand-held through my foray into this fandom.

9/11 culture change?

So yesterday on a thread that was originally about something totally unrelated an anon made a comment about 9/11, and the culture being really different before - something like the culture and values pre-9/11 were completely wiped out "within a week" after the event.

That anon never got back to me when I asked them to clarify, probably because it was late. I have never heard of this sort of view before, and was wondering if anyone could explain what they meant, and if they agree? (I was 11 at the time, so my perspective isn't terribly good for this.)

A woman posted to the forum looking for assistance on how to develop a male point of view, and here's the response from another woman:

"I am a woman, so I don't think I can answer your question."

I was all, "Wait. What?" I'm of the opinion that writers worth their salt at least bother to attempt writing male and females perspectives. As a woman, I've made this effort and continue to do so. Frankly, I was a little insulted by this remark, although I think my stronger reaction was that of pity. I feel sorry for this woman because she hasn't taken the chance to develop as a writer and try writing from a perspective that's not of her sex/gender.
