So I have a friend in a huge amount of financial trouble right now. Basically, she got into a car accident several months ago when the snow was still piled high. The other party had the right of way, but my friend stopped and looked and then slowly drove out, doing exactly what she was supposed to. There was no car coming. Then the other car came barreling through the intersection, speeding and talking on her phone, and hit my friend. So while the other party had the right of way, they were also the cause of the accident.

Only the other party lied to the police about speeding (claiming she hit her brakes as well) and about using her phone. And the police believed her. So the insurance companies followed the report and decided my friend was at fault. My friend's car was totaled, and all of that money is going to the insurance to pay the other person's bills.

So she has medical bills that even with what her insurance covered are still high. And my friend had to get another car because she has two jobs and can't do them without a car. And, of course, her rates went up. She also has had some other medical issues that led to a hospital stay, so she has those bills too. So now she's dealing with bills she can't afford on top of still dealing with major health issues that have meant she has had to take a lot of sick days.

And I just don't know what to do. I mean, I try to be the person she can rant to or cry on. But I don't have any spare money to give her. And she's so stressed about everything that I know it is making her health issues worse, but I don't know how to help.

The first two days of June have felt more like the last two days of September and I love it! I took advantage of the cold and mowed the lawn yesterday, but today it's a "fuck it I'm bundling up" kinda day.

First it was the Norwegians and a boat trip up a fjord broadcast in real time, then the BBC did a two hour canal trip with just a camera bolted on to the front of a barge. Now the BBC have topped even that, I am legit watching the BBC show some sleeping barn owl chicks, and the soundtrack is just them snoring. And it is unmissable!!

Yeah, I know. Nobody wants to do the 'oh no suicide watch' bullshit here. I get and respect that. No suicide watch crap here. I can google the local phone line if I need. Just a glurge and then I'm out.

I'm just apocalyptically depressed and I don't want to bother anyone around me with it. Don't want to kill myself. Not really into pain. Just heavy into the 'everything is hopelessly awful' phase and it helps to just crap it on an anonymous sidewalk somewhere and go away, hoping that someone, somewhere, gives a rat's butthole.

There's nothing wrong. There's chemicals inside my head that are fucky and make me miserable. I've done the medication routine - one made me sleep for a week, another made me dangerously hostile, and the last one dried my mouth out so badly that I couldn't eat. Well, hey, lost weight on that one.

So I don't do those medications and I'm in between talk therapists and I'm pretty sure nobody gives a rip. We don't actually empathize with each other, not exactly. We see the little reflections of what's fucked up, knowing it's in us, too, and for that there's that bit of connection. Maybe that's something. I dunno.

You can think this is trolling. If I'm trolling anyone, it's probably just myself.

Anyway, sorry for the bother.

Let it all out, folks. Maybe there's something to catharsis. What's got you glum? Shit on the sidewalk with me and think of warmer days and ice cream and being a little kid in happier times.

I'm considering signing up for this but I was hoping to hear other people's experiences with it. The only other fest I've participated in is Yuletide, and I was wondering how this compared (in terms of using letters, matching, size, etc.). I'm curious if I nominated pairings I'm willing to write if there's much chance anyone would take them, or if I should only nominate fandoms I want to receive.

Also, the fest appears to be open for nominations if you'd like to participate.

Yes! This woman has considered the possibility of a true matriarchy, and has determined that it would be glorious.

My favorite part has to be this:
Perfect health would be the normal state of women anyway, as we will learn by experience and observation what we should eat and do to stay healthy at all seasons and times. Most women will have rediscovered our healing, divination and extra-sensory communication powers.

But there's more where that came from. A woman-dominated society would also:
-have no need for laws
-have no need for nations, borders, or government
-abolish the concept of "work"
-be in perfect harmony with animals, the land, and the environment
-be conflict-free (unless the few men left alive step out of line)
-feature radically extended lifespans for women
-allow women to explore completely male-free means of reproduction (keep in mind this is a woman who argues that reproduction through PIV is "unnatural." Apparently, "unnatural" things are just great when they don't involve men)

(And btw, I just want to say, before the wank train pulls in: I completely understand that this is a totally wacky view that isn't shared by the vast, vast majority of feminists. She doesn't represent mainstream feminism at all, and I know that. It always surprises me when someone makes a post that is so obviously trolly/wanky and the post has replies to it. The troll is basically looking for replies. If you respond in any way to the troll you're actively encouraging them. :(
