Why the hell should I apologize for liking what I like? Jesus Christ, men get to say "well 1 woman is hot so 1 + 1 = 2 is hotter. Duh!" and everyone just accepts it. They watch two women with nails that are so unrealistically long they make me cringe fuck each other, but they don't see them as people. They don't care about their lives, their dreams, their emotions, etc.

I've observed that, at least among slash fans, only about 20% of fic is explicit. And even then, slash fans will still write these men with emotions, with hopes, with dreams, with stories of their own. They're not reduced to fucking blowup dolls.

So honestly...I don't care. Cry more.

Honestly, I don't give a fuck. I treat my slash OTPs and my het OTPs in the same way. It's for fun. And if het writers aren't accused of fetishizing het relationships, I don't understand why slash writers should be accused of fetishizing gay relationships. They all write the same pornish (or not) stories. They all squee and talk about the feels. I see no difference.

The problem comes when they try to no homo it. It doesn't happen as often nowadays, but in the old internet days it was pretty common to find women writing articles that said slash(lemon or whatever) wasn't actually about gay men, but ~~women sexuality, and then you get the same women criticizing straight men for finding lesbians hot.

It just seems like there's this certain type of female fan that goes around telling marginalized groups of people(such as gay men) that their problems originated in misogyny and as such need to take a backseat to it. White girl feminism, I guess.

Thankfully most female fans I see nowadays are not like this, so IMO fandom is more mature is this regard.

Shame about the racism though, and try to discuss it and you get the same radfems twisting their undies about how queerness is just a gateway for female sexuality and so queer men of color should just be quiet about being erased or they're being harmful to women.

So I'm not even going to bother looking at the comments on this. I figure it's going to be a bunch of people accusing you of trolling, because a lot of posters on this comm think "disagrees with me = MUST BE A TROLL!'

But I just wanted to say, I get where you're coming from (what with being a lesbian and constantly seeing my sexual orientation objectified in everything ever).

The state of modern slash fandom really is a sad thing. It wasn't always like this; fanfic writers used to actually care about the characters' canon personalities and motivations. Now it's all Migratory Slash Fandom latching onto Any Two White Guys they can project their favourite clichés onto. I'm not yet jaded enough to abandon my slash ships entirely, but I usually don't bother to look for fic anymore. No one gives a shit about characterization or plot anymore; it's all about the mindless fluff and PWP that could easily be about literally any ship with how generic it is. Femslash and het fic has this problem too, but not nearly to the same extent, at least not in the fandom circles I hang around.

I think the thing that bugs me the most is how easy it is to justify--to others, to yourself, maybe I've even sorta thought it--it not being objectifying because there's an embrace of the characterization and emotion in addition to the fucking, and usually you can't prove that those aspects only come up as sort of a reflexive or unconscious path to the fucking, but with a ship like Derek/Stiles? I don't have evidence, but of course that fucking pairing is all about them both being attractive. And on the extreme end of it people get almost delusional about just how subtexty it is and super-defensive on the subject in a way I don't even think is disingenuous, they just lose all perspective of how their id is playing into it after reading fifty fanfics that bend the relationship in that direction. I've recognized this tendency in my non-canon het shipping too, but with slash there's this sort of paradox between people convincing themselves it's some kind of progressive thing in response to the "it's not canon" criticism but also in some contexts not ever having to explain themselves because white cock is such a status quo and it's unreasonable to argue with every little case of it that comes along, and somewhere in between all that is my preferred point of "No one is trying to tell you what to ship, but there's a way to ship without bullshitting other people about it and it doesn't hurt to stop and think about your tendencies every once in a while."

I've been in fandom for over a decade now, and I've never felt fetishized for being a bisexual man. I'm also probably not in your fandoms.

I'm sure certain subsets of people are a problem, but wanting to write about buttsex =/= automatic fetishizing. Especially when you consider that those characters aren't people. They're characters. Half the time they're self inserts and aren't even representative of men, let alone gay men.

I wasn't going to respond to this since as a queer woman into primarily slash it is probably a bit fetish-y for me and I'm in no position to judge how you feel... but, you had to bring Psych into it.

Once upon a time I was active in the fandom as a Shawn/Gus shipper. Still, to this day, I don't understand the appeal of the primary slash ship (and don't get me wrong, I adore Lassiter but ship him much differently). I think one of the hardest things to accept is that people will ship what they ship, even if it makes no sense and exists only to fuel their kinks. You can deal with it and seek out those that share your interests in a way that doesn't make you uncomfortable, or you can leave. It's on you, man.

All I can say is that I don't dislike people for shipping two characters because they find them hot together (that's getting a bit too invested in other people's tastes and overreacting, imo), but that isn't what I do. (Generally. Once or twice that's happened, but it isn't a regular thing.)

I am the kind of person who won't look at porny fanart or read porny fanfic of a pairing I dislike or aren't into, no matter how well written or sexy it is. I'm just not interested; I need there to be an emotional connection if I'm going to get into it.

Now I'm not saying that every pairing I'm into is one I'm in love with, sometimes it's a more casual interest but there's still something about it that catches my eye and attracts me to it.
