Sup y'all, I'm commandeering Saturday night stream for this week.



First up is one of my favorite movies of all time, Om Shanti Om. A 1970's B-List Bollywood actor falls in love with an A-List superstar, comedy and drama ensues. In addition to being an awesome film, it also makes fun of a BUNCH of Bollywood stereotypes. Luckily Bollywood/Hollywood have a bunch of overlap (westerns, over the top action movies, chick flicks), so… yeah.

Okay, I'm doing a terrible job of selling this movie. Seriously though, it's awesome.



Then! Another one of my favorite movies, 3 Idiots. AKA a three-hour musical comedy/drama on why the modern education system is broken. (But LBR, everything in Bollywood is a three-hour musical comedy/drama.) Three best friends go to college, but after graduation one of the friends disappears forever. Years later the remaining two get a hint as to where he is and set off on a quest to find him.

Only two movies planned because they're both 3 hours each. If people are still around afterwards, might play some episodes of Miraculous Ladybug because that's my newest thing. Depends on whatever people suggest.

So, I'm considering signing up for this. Has anyone else done this? What's your experience been?

Any advice? (How many fandoms/ships should I add? Or how many is too many? How specific should I be with likes? Any off-the-wall things you'd like to gift that's not a fandom or ship that I should think about adding to my list? What should I expect when trying to treat someone? How exactly does the gifting part work? Etc.)

Stopping Zocor

Feeling-Way-Better-Than-I-Did-Last-Year!Anon, here.

I was prescribed Zocor earlier this year as a 3-months-let's-see-if-it-helps measure because of slightly elevated LDL ("bad" cholesterol). Since my insurance is changing next month, I won't be seeing the same doctors, and I may not be able to get an appointment before my script runs out. I tried to call my pharmacy, but nobody was answering the phone.

Does anybody here know if it's safe to stop Zocor cold turkey? At least until I can get re-evaluated by the new crop of doctors (which I plan to do ASAP)?

Annoying names in fiction

Someone on facebook posted a link to some article about YA books, and there was one set in Ancient Mesopotamia. I thought that was something different, and went to look at the Goodreads page.

And you know what turned me off, immediately?

The protagonist's name was Jayden.

Now, I don't know much about Mesopotamian names, maybe that was a name then and there, but I think it's pretty unlikely. And why does she just happen to have a name that's trendy now, in 21st century America? That would have just bugged me too much.

It really bugs me when authors don't do their research about names. Find out what names were used in the culture and time period you're writing about.

What is the appeal of big muscles?

This is just something I don't get. It seems like being really muscular is supposed to be one of the main things that makes men attractive, but for me (a heterosexual woman), it's never made a guy more attractive. I know quite a few women who don't like huge bodybuilder types, but if someone is muscular but still "normal," it's almost assumed that he'll be universally attractive. And guys seem to think it's the only thing women are physically attracted to. Can someone who likes them explain what's so great about them?
