If you follow me on Twitter, you might have noticed that about 10 minutes after expressing my general approval of the Grimm season 3 finale (despite a development that I will not be in favor of, if it results in a certain somebody dying), I realized something.

All the finales and penultimate episodes I’ve seen over the past few weeks have shared two common threads: Somebody did something stupid, and something bad happened. Not necessarily in that order. And while that doesn’t always result in a bad episode, it’s my least favorite way for stories to progress.

As an Aussie, it's about 9:30am here and for the first time in ages I've caught F!S when it's just been posted. I'm a student so I often have a bit of free time in the morning to check here, and am currently reading it with my 2nd cup of coffee for the morning. But otherwise I often don't get to check in until the afternoon, when most of you are in bed - but I still enjoy having a flick through on my phone on my work lunch break or while having an afternoon coffee, and having a chat to a few night owls other non US commenters on here.

Am defs jelly of not being able to read it with most of you in the evening though. That would fit into my schedule so much better, ha.

The Changing Thoughts/Attitudes of F!S

Sorry if that title is a little vague. What I wanted to ask was how the thoughts, opinions, and attitudes on F!S have changed since its creation. I guess to elaborate further, I've been looking up previous F!S people from the recent threads about what happened to certain people or anons, and from the stuff I've been seeing that have come before 2013, it's almost like I'm in a completely different F!S than I've known (which is since January of this year) in terms of reactions and prevailing thoughts. I've seen named users from those times that still post here, and hopefully they can shed some insight on it.

I know this sounds a bit hard to answer, but this has just been eating me up since I started looking.

I have to vent somewhere because I'm just pissing everyone in my house off >:(
my brother and I are adults and we live with our parents because my parents don't really make enough to live well on their own and I don't make enough to live well on my own. Together we manage. My brother, up till now, has had a part time job wherein he worked 2 days a week for about 7 hours a day, and spent the rest of his time playing video games. He finally got soooo fed up with his horrible job that he quit. And he's not even looking for work. He just... quit.
He didn't ever contribute much to the household, but now that he has no income, I have to cover what he used to as well as mine. My tiny savings has been rapidly depleted, so the trip I was saving for is not going to happen. I work 50 hours a week at a back-breaking job and the most I ever get to do for myself is go to the movies.
And today he told me that he's just so HAPPY now. He's, in his words, "happily unemployed". He knows that "happiness doesn't pay bills" but he doesn't care. I just lost it. I flipped out on him and now I'm crying about it because I'm apparently a little kid. And my mom is telling me to lay off him, and he'll get around to finding another job soon she's sure... it's been weeks. I can't take this anymore.

Surely I'm not overreacting... right?

WTB thicker skin

Help me. I need thicker skin. I need to be able to take a compliment when it's intended as such, even if it's phrased in a way that could potentially be vaguely interpreted as partially insulting as well. I need to be able to hear neutral comments without worrying that they're covering up for negative comments. I need to be able to not hate myself every damn time anything I do isn't reacted to in an absolutely definitively positive way.

Can anyone point me to good, possibly long fanfics in the Hobbit movie fandom that are NOT Bilbo/Thorin or any form of Durincest, and for preference don't involved the Durins in a major capacity at all? Not that I dislike them or anything, I'm just fed up of the focus on them a little.
