Text: In part of one of my disjointed dreams, they were leads in a (very lighthearted, as far as I can remember) romcom.

It's weird because I don't particularly like or follow either of them, and it's been a long time since I've last watched them. But now I wonder what it would take for that movie to be made. And why on earth they would be cast.

Personally I'm loving this season. I loved the Frozen arc, and this second half is even better. Season 2 was just bad, and season 3 wasn't much better. But the show has found itself again, IMHO.

I'm not in this fandom, OP, but I've seen the same thing happening in the ones I do follow. I think the generational change you describe is pretty inevitable. It's another facet of the general shift in what fandom is/means for that newer generation. That distinction that may have existed for older fans between "this is just fandom" and "but this over here is real life" doesn't exist for them in the same way.

Younger fans who join fandoms today have a different social and cultural frame of reference. Different things are important to them, different things help them with their own explorations of their ideas and identities, and they engage with media in a different, more tangled way. The Tumblr-like aggression is, for better or worse, the way they know how to process things.

What exactly is this about? I'm tempted to watch just for Aiden because there's nothing wrong with being shallow and he's really, really pretty.

I personally did notice him as Kili, though I'm more of an elf fan visuals-wise. The one that I didn't notice at all physically in-character was Armitage. He's in my top five most attractive people ever list, but not as Thorin.
