So, I'm in a class about Utopias, and one of the things our final paper can be based on is comparing one of the works we read to a modern work.

I'm debating comparing/contrasting Utopia (More) with children's works that feature Utopias/attempts at Utopias, and I was curious about what sort of things people saw/read in their childhoods that might feature these?

I'm definitely going to be using Zootopia, because I do think there are *some* interesting parallels, and because the prompt is so wide open that why not, but I guess I'm curious about what other pieces of media people might know of. :O

The only thing I can think of is The Giver series. It shows the attempt that's fairly stifled and limited (Book 1) and one where there's freedom and it more or less works, but to be fari we don't see a lot of that world (Book 4, Son).

It's a book where Sir Thomas More time travels to the future to save a utopian civilization from killer robots, and it's much weirder than it sounds

First thing to come to mind is The Giver, which is obviously a dystopia in practice but was an attempt at a utopia.

Questions about love and relationships!

Call it research or curiosity but for all you people on FS who can say they've been in love, I have a couple of questions-

1. What was the first person you fell in love with like or why did you fall in love with them?
2. If you're still in love with them, do you still see them the same way after spending time?
3. If you're in love with a different person now, what does the new person know or think about your first love?

I ask because first love true love stuff is in a lot of things I read but I almost never see a later partner interacting with not being the first one. Would be interested to know your IRL experiences!

So obviously the general idea of what's attractive changes over time. But not everyone is most attracted to their own era's ideal man/woman. Or at least, I don't find the typical hot guy/hot girl looks that seem to be popular right now very attractive.

So, what era's "look" do you like the best? Do you have difference preferences for men and women?

If you could influence trends, what sort of looks would you want to become popular in the future?

Favorite shows of the season

The standard Fall/Spring TV season is over, and I wonder what stood out to everbody as favorites? I stuck to the networks and ended up really pleased with Agents of SHIELD, Flash and Arrow.

They all had some very similar themes, but differentiated themselves enough to not feel really repetitive. (Read more about it in my 100th post here, or the three shows I couldn't keep up with -- one because it was really bad -- here.

Fandoms you got into through fanfic?

For me, I got into Magnificent 7 because my favorite SGA writer (Tipper) wrote in it. Dresden Files I got interested because of a POI crossover fic (by the Queen of crossovers, jedi buttercup). Teen Wolf sucked me in with abo fanfic and I watched the show (with laughing incredulity but not without enjoyment)

Art pet peeves

I saw this post on my dash, and it reminded me of some complaints I've seen on F!S about the kinds of art styles that are popular in fandom nowadays. (Mainly, incongruently colored noses. Other things as well, but mostly the noses.)

People who are loved in one fandom and hated in another

Maybe this happens more with real-person fandoms.

There is a person who gets mentioned in two different fandoms (involving real people) because he associated with both of the groups of people the fandoms are about, though mostly at different times. And one of the fandoms adores him, and the other generally seems to think he was an ass.

There isn't much overlap between the two, though. I find it kind of interesting.

People are freaking over all kinds of things, it is fun to watch the different groups.

Groups I've seen so far:
-There are less gorillas in the world than humans. Thus the gorilla is more valuable than the stupid kid.
-The parents should be charged with child abuse or killing an animal or *insert why these people are the worst ever*
-People defending the parents who say that kids are sneaky little escape artists who can get into all kinds of shit if you take your eyes off them for 2 seconds.
-People who (rightfully) say that the zoo should have better barriers that a 3 (or 4) year old can't get thru by themselves (as opposed to the more common being dropped when a parent holds them over the barrier).

I'm kind of disappointed tbh. Plenty of ppl record things they are enjoying, it doesn't mean you're not enjoying it as it happens too.

That poor lady. I wouldn't consider going to an adele show now, for fear of her public shaming. Just not cool.

Fictional librarians?

I debated putting this in the cosplay thread, but I thought I might get more responses this way: I work in a library and eventually want to be a librarian. In the meantime, I sometimes cosplay as one. But I'm sure I haven't read or watched everything with awesome librarian (or archivist or similar) characters in it. So my possible cosplay list includes Cassandra from The Librarians, Evelyn Carnahan from The Mummy, Belle French from Once Upon a Time, and Jocasta Nu from Star Wars. I'd feel weird cosplaying Oracle because wheelchairs aren't cosplay props (yeah I know she was "healed" but it felt like a cop out and spitting on wheelchair users, and I'm not even sure if it stuck.) And there's always the Librarian of Unseen University, but I'm not a fursuit fan. So any recs for works with librarian characters that'd be fun to cosplay as? (Short fat white girl here, if that's any help.)
