How to make a fanvid?

More specifically, can anyone recommend a program for:

1) getting scenes from DVDs for use in a fanvid
2) creating said fanvid

There are a pretty huge crapload of DVD rippers out there, so long as your computer has a CD/DVD RW drive. I suggest reading some reviews and seeing which one best fits your needs.

As far as video editing though... unfortunately this is a lot harder if you don't want to shell out for or pirate a professional editing tool. The new version of Windows Movie Maker is utter shit. I'd heartily recommend the old version as it was incredibly intuitive for beginners, but if you can manage to track it down without downloading malware then I'd have to congratulate you.

I imagine lots of you are in a similar age range to me, or at least "life stage" range - where you're at the age when your peers are getting married and buying houses but you're still renting an apartment and have aspirations to go here and there and everywhere.

For me, I keep wanting to move - including internationally. I want to maybe continue school. I want to work in a bigger city. But at the same time, a part of me just wants to... settle down. Meet someone, get married, develop more friendships. Buy a house, accumulate nice furniture instead of crappy plastic college-type furniture. Maybe get pregnant!

Anyone at this crossroads in life? Is there anything in particular you struggle with?

I realized my perception of this is super limited since I always aim to find the most peaceful and quiet corner in any of the fandoms I enter. It just hit me I couldn't name any BNFs in any of the fandoms I'm in at the moment. Is this just skewed a POV due to my own fandom habits or did BNFs vanish with LJ?

Parody Characters who are better than the canon version

Are there any fan or mainstream parody versions of characters you prefer over the real thing? I'll make no bones that I prefer Chuck from SfDebris' version of Janeway over the one written by the Star Trek Voyager writers. APart from anything else, he makes the canon actions actually make sense once you think of Janeway as a bipolar, psychotic, drug addict who likes screwing with people and shooting stuff.

Making a post about the fair because I'm at the fair, and I'm waiting for a friend to come back with her food.

Tell me about your fair! Does your state or county have an annual fair? Outside the US, what regional delineation do they do fairs for? When are they? What do you eat? What do you do?

I'm at the Indiana State Fair and this is the last day of the annual ~3 week run. There is a ton of agriculture-related competition and I love to go around and see the animals, especially the horses and pigs. I had an Italian sausage and a lemon snake-up and now I'm gonna have an elephant ear. We might do the midway but that's expensive so I'm not sure. (It's also the most fun after dark!)

Keeping in the spirit of the secret too, it doesn't need to be a full switch scene (although those get top billing as far as I'm personally concerned), but simply something outside the normal realm of "total top and total bottom" stuff.
