I don't often lie online. I never self reply or pretend to be different people. I do change different details of my past, however, because I'm paranoid of someone recognizing me. But I try to change it in such a way that the "spirit" or intended meaning of what I'm saying remains the same regardless.

how to buy a vacuum

Does anyone have any brands they'd recommend (or anti-rec)? I can't afford a really pricey one nor do I care about all the fancy bells and whistles - it just has to go back and forth across the carpet and do its job. I'm thinking of going to Goodwill for one, but I'm not sure how reliable that will be or if it would just break in a few months. However, I also have previously bought a new vacuum that only lasted a couple years. Is that sort of the expected thing for cheaper vacuums?

I'm going to do some online research natch, just wanted to see if anyone had any advice, general experiences or preferred/disliked brands.

Who or what has annoyed you recently?

The weather today is great. My sister has been bugging me recently to go on a walk around the neighborhood so that she can try her dog's no-pull harness out. We never get around to it because it has been freezing. I ask her today if she wants to go walking before dinner and she agreed. But now she is like, "Nah. BF is watching football so maybe next time." (╯°□°）╯︵ ┻━┻

Also, my psoriasis is not getting any better and is driving me insane. It is so itchy (and hurts sometime). Plus it makes me self conscious because it is on my face. : / Got a doctor's appointment tomorrow. Am going to mention this to them. Rants over.

Newb doll collector with a question

I recently purchased some Monster High dolls, and they all came out of the box with their hair all gross and tangled and clumpy. It took a TON of combing to get them to look nice. I've never had this problem with Barbies. Is this normal, or do I have shitty luck?

Movies you're glad you watched

A week or so ago I posted a list of everything movie I watched in 2014. There were 30-some movies on there, and from that, I've narrowed it down to 10 Things I'm Glad I Watched in 2014. For some of them, I had to look at the list and think, "yeah that was pretty good," but a few things stuck with me from the moment I watched them.

Among them: Jaws 3 (yes, really); The LEGO Movie; Tron; and 22 Jump Street. Follow the link for reasoning, but it's possible I just have no taste. What are some movies that stuck with you guys last year (clearly they need not be new -- or even new to you. Even though I'd never seen all of these, I've got some rewatches on the full list).

Pretty Fantasy Art With POC Characters

So because of the Tolkien paleness secret, I remembered how much I wanted to find some beautiful fantasy art featuring willowy black male elves. Other POC is cool, too. I wanted some in the first place for reference/inspiration for a character I'm writing but it was very hard for me to find when I tried.

Trainwreck Syndrome: Tumblr version

Don't worry, it's not a SJW Tumblrite, just a fandom blog.

So there was this blog I used to like because of their well written meta and decent fic. But the longer I spent on their blog, the more of their opinions that I began to disagree with. For one, they seemed to always have their shipping goggles on. Like, for character relationships, they only see romance complex family dynamic-esque bonds, or something slightly above hostility between two characters. In other words, platonic does not exist to them. They also keep reblogging confession blog posts to point out how "wrong" the confessor is. Then, when they wrote posts for another fandom, for a game that I played through a good amount of times, I think they missed a lot of points in the game.

My problem comes in that I have to put in some effort to not just hate-read through their Tumblr and see their new posts since my Chrome suggests the URL from time to time.

So F!S people, anyone have a similar problem with Tumblr blogs, where you just can't stop reading them, even when it frustrates you?

Aaaaaargh Recipes

Why is finding recipes online so freaking hard? Or, I guess, why I am so bad at it. Or, maybe, part of one and part of the other.

I should clarify, I guess. The difficult thing is not finding recipes. Finding recipes is really easy. The problem is that there's a million recipes, and it's really hard to find ones that I feel like I can trust. This is compounded, I think, by the fact that most recipes on the Internet seem to come from two kinds of sources.

First, you have the professional recipe sites - your cooking channel recipes, your allrecipes, your epicurious, etc. Now, the problem that I have with this is that some of the recipes on here are really good. But some of them are not - and there's no real well to tell in advance which recipes are anywhere close to good, and which ones have been made with an audience of people who have no idea how to cook and find cumin exotic in mind. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But I'm not going to like recipes made for those people.

Second, you have your food blogs - the kind that seem to be as concerned with gorgeous, massive money shots of the finished dish, and lots of set-up about how the author first tried this food when traveling to some exotic place, and how tasty and authentic all the spices are, and how important it is to get fresh food for everything, and maybe some shots of them thoughtfully perusing a farmer's market, or the way they cook it for their family and shots of the family sitting down to a hearty meal. And, again, I'm not saying these things are bad, and many of these recipes are good. But I'm suspicious of anything that's so focused on what I guess you could call the fashionable qualities of food.

There is a kind of recipe site that I do basically instinctively trust: the kind with a no-nonsense, scientific tone, lots of information that seems to come from extensive research, explanations about different variations, and explanations about what parts of the recipe are really central to the dish, and what parts aren't. Unfortunately, these seem to be fairly rare. Especially in terms of 'things that come up when you google for recipes'.

Maybe I should just buy more cookbooks.

Are you ever annoyed by a show that keeps telling you how awesome some character is, but doesn’t show it in that character’s actions?

For instance, I like Lady Mary Crawley, but many other characters around seem to think she can do no wrong. Part of the reason I like her is because she’s not flawless, she’s sometimes mean and very petty, she’s often aloof and distant, even cold at times. Yes, she is smart and pretty and pretty forthright and she can be very bold and brave, but that’s not all there is to her.

Also, I watched a few episodes of Red Band Society, and they kept saying how wonderful Leo was. And, by his actions, he was sometimes sweet, sometimes a complete jerk, and other than the leg and being in the hospital, he seemed like a pretty typical teenager to me.
