so something that i am... awkward about is trying to give people sympathy and support online when they're going through tough things. because you see people online talking about their problems and their hard times and their pain, and you want - as a human being - to do what you can to support them in situations like that. but at the same time, you don't want to come on too hard & be weird or overbearing or creepy.

so, how do you balance those things? any thoughts?

Attractiveness is a contentious topic. Contentious enough for a thread concerning it to garner almost 300 comments worth of wank.

...but as we all know, attractiveness is subjective. In case you needed more proof of that, here's a thread in which Daniel Radcliffe, a perfectly ordinary looking human being, is referred to as "pretty fug".

Wank over gender identity is nothing new here on F!S. It's been going on since the average daily secret count was over 60!

On that note, let us turn to the ultimate paradox: There are no girls on the internet, and there are no boys in internet fandom.

Okay, I give up trying to make my sausage fingers click inside the subject field. This will be a thread about Heroes Reborn. The next comment will have spoilers for last week's episode; later there could be spoilers for tonight's episode.

Question About Weight

I'm female, and I recently entered college. Before I entered, I was 144 lbs. In about three weeks, I have gone down to 130 lbs. I'm not dieting. I have just completely lost my appetite. I try to eat regularly, but I definitely don't eat as much as before. I like being thinner, but I'm concerned that I'm losing weight too quickly.

Should I be concerned?

and I freaking loved it. I also came to realize that I really, really like Bill Cipher as a villain - I'm not normally much into villains of that type, but damn is he entertaining. Normally I don't love possession-types, either, but Bill does it with style, haha.

How many chances do you give a new series?

So this is inspired by yesterday's #1. How many episodes, chapters, minutes, ectetra do you give a series, book, movie, or whatever before you decided you like it or don't like it? For me, it's the first five episodes or the first hundred pages.

I don't have a set time. Just until it does something egregious that posses me off or until it's so boring I stop caring about it.

Ranges between 2 episodes and less than 1. I gave Sherlock two episodes before giving up. Teen wolf got about 30 minutes before I gave up. Life is too short to waste it on mediocre stuff.

Oh, wow, that depends. I'd give a show at least five episodes to decide, because a lot of them take a while to get off the ground.

If a movie is in my area of interest, I am endlessly patient. The only movies I've bailed on part way through were frat-boy comedies and rom-coms, because in general I hate both, and if I don't like it early on, it usually doesn't get better. But scifi/fantasy films/historical epics? I will sit through those for hours without giving up, even when they aren't very good.

With books and most TV shows, I tend to be a completist. If I start it, I almost always have to finish it. That's almost always true when it comes to books. I will slog through to the bitter end, whining and complaining, but for some reason I have to finish it. I can't think of a book that I haven't finished reading.
