I just found out that the nursing home my grandma is in is getting shut down due to safety concerns to staff and residents (or so the official line is.)

The building is 60s-vintage to begin with; one of the elevators is always broken, too. But you know -- I just can't say I really like how things are run over there. Grandma hates it there and I don't like the staff, who are negligent, bureaucratic, and getting them to do anything is like pulling teeth.

Questions About The Closer Fandom

I just marathoned my way through the series, and while I'm not interested into getting into fandom for it, I'm really interested in what the fandom for it is like.

Is the fandom big or small? Crazy or moderately sane?

Are there ship wars? Which are the most popular ships?

What episodes/scenes are most controversial? When do people declare shark-jumping, if they do?

Also, is Major Crimes worth watching? Thanks to anyone who can answer these questions!

I have this irrational desire to be seen as a part of my friends' soon-to-be-combined family. Like, I desperately want to meet their parents and siblings and have them love me. Fic question (fantasy/pregnancy)

Hm. So I don't usually start threads here. Hi!

Anyway, I'm writing a fic that I may or may not finish, that is a mild AU of a game. It's m/m, but the main characters canonically have a daughter each in the game who become important to the plot via time travel and parallel futures and all that wonderful stuff.

Naturally, this means I still need the kids to be actually born. My original thought was that they'd find a birth mother for each of the kids (or maybe the same one for both so they're at least half-siblings by blood) since the older one at least is born partway through the plot and that part is somewhat important.

Of course, now I'm wondering if I can stretch the healing magic to cover some method of artificial conception--likely similar to in-vitro--or if I'd be better off implying they actually did have sex with the woman involved with fertility potions or something making sure they only had to once? It'd be all above-board stuff, nothing shady (or in the context of the extended worldbuilding I'm doing, all that odd), so I'm not worried about that part.

The healing magic in question is pretty much Standard RPG Healing Magic. Repairs injuries, minor buffs, there are potions you drink to restore hitpoints and a few others that can do some other things like temporary stat boosts. The magic in general is typically the offensive elemental type, although I've sort of slightly played with that already in its applications. The setting is fairly standard swords-and-sorcery fantasy, with the home country of the characters being noted even in canon for being peaceful and open-minded.

So I guess this is what I'm asking: would it be too weird for them, in that context, to know a spell that would enable a woman to get pregnant without having to have sex with a man? The main hurdle to that would probably be 'how would they, in a medieval-ish setting, know exactly how pregnancy happens?'

Being sick

I swear to god, I want to beat my body for being so fail.

I think I'm getting sick again. I'm so damn tired, my joints are killing me, my muscles are twitching from fatigue even when I don't do much more than walk half a mile. Starting to get that annoying sore glands in my neck thing.

My body demands from like 9-12 hours of sleep, which is ridiculous. I usually get by between 6 and 7 no problem, but for whatever reason I have been sleeping hard and long.

This is not my year for being healthy. I was sick for 3 months until I got antibiotics, then I had a really intense and draining work schedule, and now I think my body is either belatedly trying to recover, or it's taking a nosedive again.

Any advice? Tips to perk up my performance?

Dressing to impress former friends

So I'm having some people over this weekend- some of whom I see regularly, and two people I was friends with in middle and high school but we aren't close anymore. (One of them I had a huge fight with in HS and we didn't speak for several years but we still have some mutual friends, the other we just went separate ways at graduation. We are all now back in our home town, they're in grad school and I'm working.)

Anyway, I'm trying to decide what I should wear that will be casual but really put-together- we're doing a potluck dinner party and watching a movie. It's supposed to be a really nice day (upper 70s), but I'm easily cold. I have one long but casual dress that fits the bill but I had it in HS and they might remember it. I'm leaning towards just skinny jeans and a blouse, but I don't know. Thoughts?

I've been pretty kitchen-incompetent for a while, but my partner and I were recently gifted a $7 a meal cookbook, so I flipped through and found something that looked easy enough to make: sweet and sour pork.

I messed up a bit with the timing and all, but it turned out pretty tasty! And then we baked a ton of cookies and tonight we cooked again (beef and black beans over brown rice)! It's so fun and a lot more filling and nutritious than the pre-packaged foods we've been getting ^w^

I'm just really excited about being able to cook, especially because my partner has a pretty serious onion sensitivity, and onions are in pre-packaged everything, so being able to make stuff without it is awesome :D

In honor of graduating from microwave meals to Real Cooking, how about sharing some cooking stories? Ridiculous mishaps, wonderful recipes - anything!
