Can you recommend some links to some free workout videos? Beginner level mostly, since I'm just starting out. Preferably ones without any special equipment needed. I've been browsing YouTube but there are just so many it's overwhelming. Any type - if you love it link it!

looking for novel about lady detective

I'm trying to remember a book series that was mentioned here a while back (the secret was complaining about how the book covers depicted the main character as a thin woman when the books described her as having a fuller figure). It's about a female detective and I think it takes place in the 19th century but I'm not too sure about that part. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Holiday season is upon us

You can't escape it. And for the most part, even if you don't celebrate anything there is still something you like about it. Even if it is something simple as Starbucks having peppermint flavored drinks on the menu now or driving through your neighborhood at night to see the insanity that is holiday light displays or your city building an ice skating rink in the middle of downtown or just the deep discounted sales everywhere. We all have something that only comes out this time year.

So, what's your favorite thing about this season?

Sherlock Holmes

So I read some of the stories over Thanksgiving. I liked it way more than I thought I would. Holmes is actually a decent person, in contrast to every movie/tv show version of him I've ever seen. His relationship with Watson seems more equal, and the stories were really good. Thanks, FS, for convincing me to read the stories!

Just curious. I work from home, part time in the afternoons, so I don't have to be up early and I abuse that luxury a lot of the time and sleep 'til 11 or noon.

What food has come into your life recently, F!S? New (or just new-to-you) products, new recipes, surprising combinations? Tell me of them, because food is a fascinating thing.

For my part, I have just discovered that Trader Joe's makes cheddar and horseradish potato chips. My sinuses are less than thrilled, but the rest of me is quite happy.

Useless talents

Do you possess any "useless" talents? If so, please share!

I, for one, am a champ when it comes to applying lipstick using my boobs instead of my hands. (like in "The Breakfast Club"!) Which, while a fun party trick when I'm tipsy, isn't that much of use unless I have to have both my hands amputated someday.

embarrassing things you told people and immediately regretted telling

It often happens to me when I do not get enough sleep. Then I start saying really inappropriate things to everyone, or telling people things I would normally keep secret, and then I walk around all the day and wonder what the hell possessed me to tell that to anybody.

I guess I just want to put this out in the open, somewhat, despite hiding in comments here.

It's not that I have too much stuff... I have less than the average amount of stuff a person would have, because I live in a tiny studio so there simply isn't space for my belongings. My car is piling up because I've run out of places for things in my home, so that's the only place to put them. I'm typing from my laptop while lying in bed, because after Black Friday shopping, there are bags of gifts in front of my desk, waiting to be distributed for the holidays.

Much of what I have, I admit, is crap. I take loads to the dump twice a month, but I can't seem to get on top of the mess. I've tried to prune down my entertainment collection - CDs, DVDs, books, to digital versions. But I'm a student, so I have to have physical copies of my texts, as well as notebooks, printed pages, etc..

My pets (hamster & fish) are in generally better living conditions than I am in, although I am still not as diligent as I ought to be in maintaining their areas. I know that the pigsty I live in is my doing, and not a reason that they should suffer, so I do put in extra effort to keep them comfortable.

I guess I always had issues keeping my room straightened when I was a kid, letting things pile up until my parents yelled at me to clean. Now I've got no one to yell at me, so things kept piling and here I am with no hope of getting on top of it. I kept telling myself to hold on until I graduate, get a better job, get a real house, and then I will have places to put things... But I'm getting scared.

I have long-term depression and social anxiety. I don't go out much. I don't have people over. So there's nothing to do but stay home and stare at the mess. Which makes me more depressed and anxious. So I just stay home and stare...

Please don't comment if you're just going to tell me I'm disgusting and I should just grow up and clean my damn house. Tell me something I don't know.

You need help. No, I don't mean to be mean. But what you are doing is building a barrier between you and the world due to your social anxiety and depression. You don't even realize it. But that's what hoarders do. Their stuff is a cocoon of safety. Unfortunately, in most cases, they can tell themselves that they will stop tomorrow but tomorrow never comes. Therapy and medication may help and I recommend that. It's nothing to be ashamed off any more than I need glasses for my malfunctioning eyes. (I'm nearsighted) You need glasses for your head to make you think clearer.

Secret 1 - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Buffy's whole "I was in Heaven" angst throughout season 6 irritated the shit out of me.

Most people live their entire lives with only the hope that an afterlife paradise exists and that they will be allowed into it someday, if they play their cards right. She knew FOR CERTAIN that Heaven was real, that her dead loved ones were there, and that she had a front-row seat reserved for her. Rather than drawing strength and peace from that certainty, she turned it into some woe-is-me dramafest and started treating everyone around her like crap. Pissed me off.
