Ever read a fic you really enjoyed and yet wished you hadn't ever encountered?

And I don't mean in the sense that someone tricked you into clicking Celebrian and you read it all out of bile fascination and now you have a scar on your soul. I mean, a fic you found legitimately good but it messed with your head so much you kind of regret reading it.

Right now I'm feeling so desperately sad after reading this cancer fic about a pairing that I don't even ship. I should have heeded all the warnings about illness and death, the fact that the story began with the frickin' death of the protagonist's beloved dog, but since I don't care that much about the pairing I figured I'd be okay. I was wrong.

I've felt this way before, but that was an OTP and I was actually angrier than sad, feeling like my emotions had been manipulated.

Yes. It was a Jensen/Jared fic that I read (one of like...3). And it was AMAZING! It incorporated music into the fic (one of the characters played the piano). But, it was incredibly depressing (even though it had a happy ending). Even now, when I hear some of the songs from it, it makes me sad. I'll try and find it.

Also a Clark Kent/Bruce Wayne fic because it showed me a kink I did not know I had (and that it is not that popular, I think).

It's hard to say. "Regret" is such a strong word, but I basically love Steve/Bucky as a pairing, and even like the darker fics. Hell I even dive into the dumpster of the Hydra Trash Party sometimes.

The problem is some fics of hat pairing, and just generally Bucky Barnes in general, are an absolute minetrap of well...I'm not going to call them triggers, because that word s badly used in fandom...but let's say "shit that upsets me on a deep level and can link to own experiences".

I remember this one fic where a panic attack was described - and I'm not sure they called it that way - but it very clearly was and I was basically "well, that's enough internet for today".

There also was one that had a suicide attempt that just felt very...real (possibly same fic even). It really depends on how it's written, I can't really predict which one will upset me and which one won't, so it's hit or miss.

But yet on some level I might love those fics the most...my brain in weird.

I just stay away from cancer fics, though - especially with my dad, can't really handle that right now.

There was a very old Glee fic, written I think during the back nine of the first season. It involved a very strange "apocalypse" where people just started...disappearing, like one day they'd be there and then the next they wouldn't. Some disappeared right in front of others. And it was a worldwide "plague".

It also revolved around Kurt's feelings for Finn, and Finn sort of returning them but being unable to accept that he returns them all the same, and it was wrenching. It came down to the two of them (the rest of the city, and, implied, the rest of the world) was empty, and I'm really not sure I'll ever shake the feeling of absolute desolation the author wrote into it. It was beautiful, but gutting.

It didn't help that it ended badly. Kurt disappeared before anything could get sorted out between them, and the very last part was Finn rolling over and going to sleep.

I really don't cry at fic (only one other has managed it in my long fic-reading career), but oh god, I was a mess. I still get upset when I think about it. But god, was it beautifully written.

I once read a reasonably well researched pregnancy fic. The author did her homework (as far as I can tell never having been pregnant myself) and included little tidbits her friends had told her about their pregnancies. And then I read the chapter detailing the actual birth of the baby, in which the author had included every single horror story about giving birth her friends had told her. I did enjoy the fic quite a bit but I really wish I would have stayed ignorant about these horrible things that can happen to you when you give birth.

I once read a very well-written Sherlock Holmes fic that involved Holmes getting off of morphine post-Sign of Four. Morphine withdrawal involves diarrhea and incontinence, as the fic was only too happy to go into detail about. I did not need that image.

There was a fic with a lot of gratuitous torture, which is admittedly the reason I was reading it. This had some graphic description of the victim's shins getting broken with a metal pipe, and for some reason shin injuries always get me, right up there with knee injuries. No fucking thank you. Damn image still haunts me, nearly five years later.

Just a few days ago, in fact. It was an AU where the Doctor destroyed the TARDIS before going off to die (for real) at Lake Silencio. Very very haunting.

What characters do you feel the most protective of?

Some characters I like some whump but some characters I want to curl around and protect from the world, and my preferences seem to have little correlation with how hurt they are in canon.

Who do you most want to protect from the world? I have a passionate desire to see Timothy Drake receive hugs and comfort. Which he NEVER DOES

So what will you guys be checking out? I've got How to Get Away With Murder set to DVR tonight. I'm looking forward to the new American Horror Story, but other than that I'm not sure what else I will be checking out.

So, we're doing Kallanda's Terrible Taste Trailer Night.

If all goes well, I'll be doing it Thursday the 2nd, half an hour after F!S normal update time (so you all still can check the secrets).

So what are we doing: terrible trailers to terrible or weird movies, possibly a short film as a main feature if I can dig up one, but mostly just campy fun and an excuse to hang out.

You can suggest your favourite "bad" movies here and I'll go look for the trailer. You can also just suggest things during the stream.

This is basically my test run, and if it goes well, I'm thinking of doing a Nazi night (where we mock Nazi's, for the record, not condone them).

I like the FS Index enough that I'll never give it up outright, but damn do I wish their were fewer anime/manga/game secrets. Originally I wasn't going to include anything I didn't know or care about (which is pretty much all anime/manga/most games), but then I decided it wouldnt hurt or take long to include fandoms that were blatantly obvious.

Then Name That Fandom started and it's both easier and more time consuming/boring to include. But I just can't make myself not. Except things with super-long non-English names that may be the whole name or may be an abbreviated name and I just can't be bothered.

So yeah. At the moment I'm annoyed by my own 100% voluntary project.

Edit: I am however staying top recognize a few things. Mostly Naruto, Metalocalypse and Phoenix Wright. Not whatever the dude with a half skull mask is in though.

I know there's a difference, but I'd like to hear how people would describe it, because I sure as hell couldn't pinpoint or articulate it.

And by "asexual" I mean that the people have no interest in sex or sexual desire, not just that they don't have sex.
