Tagging Secondary Pairings on AO3 - Opinions?

I know I've kind of seen it discussed hereabouts before, but how do you feel about tagging secondary pairings on AO3?

On the pro side: if you treat tags as warnings, you can avoid fics that include both Pairing X and Pairing Y if your OTP is Pairing X and you hate Pairing Y (or at least you can go in prepared to skim when you get to all the Pairing Y stuff).

On the con side: if you go in looking for Pairing Y, every time you search for it you're going to get a bunch of Pairing X (with Pairing Y in the background), which is not what you want when you're looking for Pairing Y. This may be especially aggravating when Pairing X = A/B (which is the endgame pairing) and Pairing Y = B/C (which is often seen as kind of a set-up pairing but is definitely NOT endgame for the writer), and you're just a Pairing Y fan looking for something good to read.

Sooooo my point is, as a reader at AO3, which would you prefer? Having secondary pairings tagged (to have full awareness of what's in there), or having them not tagged so as to not come up when searched for, since they're not what the fic's primary focused on? (Theoretically in the second case I'd still mention other pairings, such as they were, in like the summary or something).

I've heard people bitch about Moffat a lot here, about the Doctor Who and Sherlock fandoms, but can someone give me some rants about why? The only criticisms of him I have understood was the fact that he has some weird faux-feminist misogyny, but I think people have a lot of other problems with him as well, am I correct? However, since no one seems to really explain it, it feels like everyone is in on some joke I'm not getting.

In any case, I'd appreciate some vitriol and analysis being vented here!

bc my coworkers and I kind of turned my boss in (we are assistants in a preschool and she's the teacher) to the director because she has been abusing the kids (shaking them, screaming in their faces, dragging them around by their arms, etc) and I know she got called in to a meeting about it on Friday but I don't know if she really got fired or what. If she's there tomorrow... I'm sick thinking about it D: I know I did what needed to be done but I am still worried sick.

Application Worries

Okay, I need to vent somewhere (and maybe get a little advice).

See, I've been unemployed for 18 months, though I've done 2 months work experience in that time at a frozen food shop. Said frozen food shop has now given me an application form for a part time job, covering maternity leave. So, 12 hours a week, at minimum wage, for about 3 months.

But I don't know if I should apply! I want a full time job (I do apply to a lot, I just don't get the jobs), not part time. Last part time job I had was a real hassle money and time wise, and I don't want to get into another job where 1, I'll be kicked out after a few months, and 2, isn't really enough hours.

I feel like I should apply, but I'm torn.

Sorry about the rant. Does anyone have any advice? I'd really appreciate it.

I've just read Catch-22 and now I'm heartbroken about the way Kid Sampson and McWatt died. It surprises me that there's no fandom. At least I could drown my sorrow in some good fanfiction.

Still, my IRL headcanon about Americans got confirmed yet another time - they don't like (or can't) to produce anything really pessimistic and full of horror. I absolutely expected the ending to be depressing and terrifying, got my shock blankets ready and was basically close to giving up this stereotype of mine, while BADABUM some happiness and hope finally ensued.

I'm deeply in love with Joe Heller and I'm going to read "Closing Time" now (yeah, I know, everybody thinks that it's not as great as Catch, but I couldn't care less". Even wrote a hurt/comfort one shot, but one's own fanfic doesn't exactly work the way somebody else's does, you know.

Older Lesbian Romance Recs?

Can anyone recommend any good books, shows, movies, whatever where a lesbian romance with older characters is actually canon?

"Older" is a relative term, but I guess I mean characters who are old/mature enough that their whole lives aren't up in the air. And where the lesbian storyline isn't just for the sake of two hot women. (Something like Adama/Roslin but with women, you know?)

I love fic, but I've kind of hit breaking point on never having a canon ship :( There must be something somewhere.

SCARS AND BIRTHMARKS

Ok, f!s - here's an interesting question as a follow-up to the genetic quirks thread from yesterday. Do any of you have any scars or birthmarks? If so, what are they and where? If it's a scar, how did you get it?

Personally I don't have a birthmark (although my mom has a really cool one on her leg). I have several minor scars, most of which are fading. The two that are more or less permanent are a chicken pock mark on my forehead (so faded at this point that it's hard to see without the right light) and a scar on my lower right lip from getting stitches when I was a kid. I call it my beauty mark. It's visible under normal circumstances, but it's easier to see if I point it out and then prod on the back of it with my tongue :P

Queer dating advice

I've never cared much about dating or getting romantically involved, but lately I've been thinking that maybe I could at least try to put myself out there and see if something happens. I've been going to a local LGBT student association's meetings and made some friends, but that's it. The city where I live is smaller than I'd like it to be, so we only have one small gay bar and one regular gay club once or twice a month. I'm mainly interested in girls but I have a piss poor gaydar, and it feels like most of the girls who visit that bar/club already know (and date) each other. I'm not even trying to hook up, just trying to get to know new people, but I feel a bit intimidated somehow. I know some people say dating sites are not that bad, but I have to think about that.

So tell me, F!S, where do you usually go if you're looking for potential partners of your preferred gender(s)? Or where/how did you meet your current SO?
