Does anyone have any favorite Leonard McCoy-centric communities OR fic recs? I would especially love any gen stories (I have found oodles in pairings), but will take any must-read Bones pairing fics (preferably Kirk or Spock or both).

I just started watching this series with a mix of people who have and have never seen it. Holy fuck, why do so many people love Smash? Does he GET better? Is that what people are responding to? Still, I'm one of those who've never seen it, and we're only two episodes in, but 99 percent of EVERYBODY is all "OMG, I LOVE SMASH! HE'S SO AWESOME!" (And its an online group, so there are plenty of people; it's not like five of us or something.)

I actually caught myself thinking that they only like him because he's black. Which is no less racist than hating him because he's black. This was going to be a secret for next week, but I decided not to wait.

Update About My Lady Love

An update for those interested.

So. . .after working up my courage for two weeks, I asked out that pretty girl I had a crush on. She was the first lady I asked out and pretty much the third irl person ever that I said "I am interested in women" to.

I was rejected :/ But it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and she was very kind about it. She said that we should definitely continue to be friends and that we should hang out more and she immediately made plans to hang out with me on Friday for a "friend date."

Some part of me is disappointed that it didn't go the way I wanted, but another part of me is growing proud that I had the nerves to ask her out in the first place. There will be other fish in the sea, and it won't be so scary to try to catch one next time. Thanks for the encouragement, guys <3 You're the best.

Incidentally for those that remember I am also confused possibly bisexual! anon from a few months ago, so just let it be known that your love and support during my whole journey thus far of figuring myself out has been welcome and touching.

writers, how do you build your vocabulary?

I'm trying to enhance my vocabulary because it will reflect in my writing and make it better. I know that they say reading and keeping a dictionary beside you is one of the best ways, but what's another way you use to increse your vocab? Could be another site, or anything you like to mention! Since grade school is over and there are no vocab lists and flash cards, I don't really know where to start.

There are word games on dictionary.com! They're lots of fun and good for your exact purpose.

Chalk and cheese siblings

My sister (only sibling) and I have basically nothing in common. Our interests, aspirations, hobbies, beliefs and values barely overlap. It's got to the point where now in our mid-twenties it's a huge amount of effort just to keep a conversation going.

It makes me sad because I see and hear so much about awesome sibling relationships. We never had a falling out or anything, and I love her very much. But if she weren't my sister there's no way at all that we'd be in each others' lives.

Anyone else that way with their sibs?

My brother and I have spoken three times in about 20 years. They were all painfully awkward and brought up some resentments for each of us. Now we coordinate through our dad so we don't visit our parents at the same time again.

I have a lot of opinions that are considered strange/unusual/freakish/whatever by the people I know. Not really surprising since I live in a really traditional town in the Bible Belt & most people I know are pretty old-fashioned. But I don't think the things I think are really THAT unpopular so I'm usually surprised to come here or some other site & once again have people tell me how strange it is. Most of the time I don't think my view is THAT bizarre or unreasonable but out of like 20 comments there'll be 1 or MAYBE 2 people who will agree or at least not think what I'm saying is that damn strange. Everyone else agrees with the people around me who think I'm a freak. I'm sure probably a couple of them are trolls but I'm really tired of it & it makes me sad. :(
