Hello everyone! Noodles was kind enough to allow me to stream a couple movies this upcoming Saturday at 6pm EST. Unfortunately, I don't actually have a theme, I just have a couple of movies that I wanted to share. :3

First up, the tragic tale of sex, drugs, and murder, as told with musical theater!



Alan Cumming narrates this tale of terror as the film follows two young lovers, played by Kristen Bell, and Christian Campbell as they deal with the worst drug menace of our time- reefer. 

Rated R for drug material, sexual content and some violence".
It's 109 minutes long.

After that, it's a tale of two brothers, granted, there's some other stuff thrown in their for a plot, but mostly about the two brothers. 

 

I honestly don't even know how to sell this one to you all; it's Thor, it's pretty boys fighting elves in space, with some sciencey stuff thrown in to provide some sort of "plot". :D 

Rated PG-13 for "sequences of intense sci-fi action and violence, and some suggestive content"
112 minutes long

What is everyone doing this weekend?

I am actually going to have a busy Saturday! My sister and I are going to the gym very early. We then have to take our dog to be microchiped. Then my sister and I are having a girls day. She is going to rip all the unwanted hair out of my face and paint my nails. During this we are going to watch the last seven episodes of series 4 of Doctor Who.

Practicality vs Enjoyability

So I'm an American college student I'm debating which second language I should study (for gen ed, not as a major/minor). Spanish is obviously the most practical but I really want to take Japanese (yeah, I know, weeaboo alert). The local tech school offers Spanish night classes for anyone who would be interested in learning, while no one else here offers Japanese, so I could conceivably learn Spanish later on.

What say you, f!s? Also, what practicality vs enjoyability decisions have you had to make recently?

AO3 Etiquette Question

I'm planning on writing a longish fic that will be pretty evenly split into developing two pairings. One of these pairings is fairly unpopular, and the other one is pretty nonexistent. However, I'm also including two side pairings that will be established relationships, and both of these pairings are pretty popular in fandom as well as almost unanimously accepted.

Should I include these two side pairings when I'm tagging pairings for this fic? I don't want to be a douche trying to get more readers by tagging popular pairings that won't have all that much focus. Should I just say that the pairings will be included in an author's note at the beginning of the first chapter?

Violence on TV in different countries

So, I'm from the US and really haven't been personally exposed to much TV from other countries. However, I've heard a lot about how U.S. TV acceptability standards for sex vs violence are very different than they are in a lot of other countries. Usually, this is only brought up while saying that some other countries' TV is more open about sex. But how about violence? Are some countries a lot more restrictive about violence than the U.S. is? Are there countries that are even less restrictive about violence than the U.S.?

I loved it. Steve was his admirable self, and I liked that they had a good focus on the fact that along with ethics he also has a damn good brain and a sense of humor. The new character was great, the old characters were great, there was an actor cameo that I wasn't expecting and squeed over.

There was, of course, a great deal of boom happening but I thought the scale of it was good, not small but not overreaching itself to top Avengers or anything. The game-changer was gamechangy, and I suspect that the Agents of SHIELD spoilers for the movie will have to be pretty damn spoilery. Also the Winter Soldier is the most puppy-eyed baddie to ever bad, no lie.

My one complaint, and it is a small one, is that my favourite thing about Cap is his burning desire to protect people...and while in the movie his goal was still doing the right thing, I'd have liked to see more of him helping people straight out (like avoiding collateral damage or protecting civilians from shrapnel or whatever). To be fair, I'm pretty sure that stuff's on the cutting room floor and will be included in a deleted scene.

(also I can JUST SEE NOW, morons complaining that they made Natasha a 'damsel in distress' just because she was unconscious once or twice. Freaking everybody got knocked out, preemptively c'mon people.

Still, overall I loved it! Admittedly I am easy to please, but I didn't have to work to overlook huge flaws.

Anyone else here turned on by (fictional) violence?

I don't mean really graphic/gruesome painful sadistic stuff, just the physicality and power of fighting, punching, shooting, stabbing, grappling, falling, bleeding, throwing people around and getting thrown around, all that kind of thing.

Sometimes I think I'm too dumb to be in fandom. I see people talk about all these things and making all these references. Like making connections between this form of art and that theme of a piece of literature. Maybe it's just the people I follow, they're mostly a little older and/or have gone to university. And I look over at my GED practice books and just feel really, really dumb.
