It's my birthday next week and I'm going show you guys some of my favorite movies from my childhood. It'll be fun!

First, Enemy Mine, the best movie about a man (Dennis Quaid) and his alien enemy (Louis Gossett Jr.) crash landing on a hostile planet and falling in love.



Then, The Frighteners. Michael J. Fox uses his ability to communicate with the dead to it's full potential-- conning people. But, when people start dying under strange, ghostly circumstances, he and his three ghost friends have to fight the evil spirit causing their deaths. (Jeffery Combs is fabulous in this. Also, this may be Jake Busey's best movie.)

We'll probably watch something else, though what I haven't quite decided yet.

My day started out bad with a migraine that woke me up at 3 AM. Went to work but ended up coming home at noon on account of said headache. Good thing I did because it turned out to be an allergic reaction to this new lotion I've been using. I had to go to the urgent care when I started having trouble breathing and my inhaler wasn't helping.

Feeling better now, though. Just woke up from a 3 hour nap.

What makes you backbutton out of a fic immediately? Maybe apart from the usual suspects like horrible writing style and OOCness.

I can't stand surprise!established relationships. I want to read about how the characters overcame the problems that kept them apart in canon and not have that skipped in favor of honeymoon phase fluff that comes out of nowhere.

Ring Etiquette

I have a ring coming in the mail that I really like and plan to wear almost every day (the same way I wear the same heirloom earrings every day that I work). It has a religious symbol that is extremely meaningful to me, and I don't want to go put without it. (I've tried to find the perfect pendant of the symbol but so far no luck.) It's a small ring, but I'm fairly certain I can wear it on my ring finger of either hand.

Here's my issue: said ring is shaped in a way that could be mistaken for a wedding band. At work, my coworkers and clientele are Russian, and Russians and Soviets wear the wedding band on their right hand. I don't want to wear it on my right and have to keep fending off questions and congratulations.

But if I put it on my left, the second I go outside into the American world, I'm suddenly married here as well. So what do you think? Should I just wear it on my left and hope that I won't have to keep explaining that I'm not married (as opposed to me *definitely* having to explain it at my workplace -- plus these are old Russian people, they forget by the next day and have to ask again. Also they love gossip and will start rumors which, while amusing, might get me into come uncomfortable moments), or do I switch hands depending on where I am?

For that matter, do you personally notice peoples' wedding bands in general? I don't usually notice unless I'm directly focused on someone's hands, but other people might. There are all kinds of jokes and stories about people being able to spot a wedding band from a mile away.

The meeting got off to a rocky start. I told him the clonazepam had been way too strong for me, and expressed surprise that he would prescribe something that powerful right off the bat. He said it wasn't especially powerful, although my body chemistry may have been strongly affected, and he hadn't given me a particularly high dose (1 mg.) Besides, I needed to get my sleep cycle under control--many people will never get better if they don't get proper sleep.

From there, he tried to move on to talking about “mood disorders,” but I interrupted to ask him what he would have done if the clonazepam had worked. He was initially evasive, but when I brought up that clonazepam isn't supposed to be used long-term, he said he can and does prescribe it long-term even if “the literature” says not to. The literature is often wrong, he told me--for instance, it says not to prescribe . . . I forget the exact term he used, amino something-or-others, together with stimulants, so three or four times a week, he has to call a pharmacy and tell them that yes, he intentionally prescribed an amino something-or-other together with a stimulant. (I should emphasize that he was totally calm when he said this--he didn't sound even slightly irritated.) In conclusion, he told me not to believe everything I read on the Internet.

He said the next thing to do would be to treat my “mood disorder”* and my ADHD. I asked when we'd determined for certain that I had ADHD--it was a possibility, but I'd never been diagnosed with it before. He came out with a long, LONG list of slightly incorrect traits he'd picked up from our first session, most of which were pretty accurate. He told me I didn't fit the typical profile of someone with ADHD, but it was likely I had it, especially since my father does. He added that his diagnoses should always be taken as “statistical”--if he says I have something, he just means it's more likely than not that I have it.

He said the normal course of action would be to treat my mood disorder first, then my ADHD, since medication for ADHD can make mood disorders worse. However, with most mood medication, it would take a month to determine whether or not it was working, whereas it's easy to tell within a few days whether medicine for ADHD works. He told me he was undecided which I should try first, and I replied that I'd like to try the ADHD medicine first, just to rule out whether or not I actually had it.

He started telling me all about Lamictal, a great anticonvulsant that his friend had discovered could also treat mood disorders, and I decided not to bother interrupting him. He gave me thorough instructions on how to properly use it, including what dosage to take week by week and what side effects to watch for (primarily a small chance of a severe rash), and he told me it would take at least five weeks to see results.

He's arrogant, he doesn't listen, and I'm pretty certain he's just handing out pills like they're candy, but I'm gonna keep him, at least for the moment. I'm seeing a psychiatrist soon at an institution I actually trust, as well as a general practitioner intended to make sure any medicine I'm taking isn't affecting me. This might be my best chance to try out various medicines and see which ones actually treat my symptoms and make me feel better. All I have to lose is my health and sanity, right?

* At no point has he ever referred to my issues with depression as anything other than a “mood disorder.” He doesn't even call it depression, it's just my “mood disorder.”

ETA: My mother looked up Lamictal, and most mention of it in reference to mood is specifically in treating bipolar disorder, which I definitely don't have. I called the psychiatrist, and he said it should help with “mood instability,” which I have even though I don't have bipolar disorder. (To be fair, I definitely have unstable moods.) I asked why he didn't try me on Celexa, given that it worked for me in middle school, and he said he doesn't usually prescribe SSRIs since they cause weight gain and sexual dysfunction, but we can discuss it the next time I see him. (I just found out this afternoon that my mother and father both take Celexa, and he said that's a good sign it would work for me without side effects.)

I'm just surprised he finally called it something more specific than "mood disorder."

Teen Wolf: Stalinski - HELP!

So, I'm about to start a Stilinski-family chapter of the Teen Wolf fic I'm working on...which means now I actually have to deal with not knowing the sheriff's first name.

I know fandom seems to have a love-hate relationship with the name John, and I don't mind that name, but I kind of don't want to use and be eventually found wrong (or alienate the portion of fandom that hates it for being boring and overused). So I was thinking about just sticking with Stilinski. Would that be off-putting to you, to read about "Stilinski" watching his son sleep and ruminating on their past?

Also,with all the talk of character bashing in the dealbreakers thread, I'm a little nervous about this story. Because Stiles has really not been pleasing me this season. I think he's made choices that give people some legitimate grievances against him, and part of my fic is exploring those grievances.

Stiles will eventually get his head on straight, but now I'm worried a ton of people will read the first parts as "Stiles-bashing" and give up.

Okay, so I have a sister that I'm close in age to, so we're about the same size. And when we were kids to about middle school, we shared the same underwear. I was talking to a couple of people and they brought this up and expressed disgust that people would do this. I didn't say anything, but it made me wonder if that is unusual.

LOL. Okay. Uhhh. The chapter starts with Obito telling Rin that he has to go back and help Kakashi, because he needs to make sure he doesn't die and butt in. Rin laughs and says that he and Kakashi are good friends, and Obito denies it. He...teleports...back...to...the...world...of...the...living, because why the fuck not? and then tells Kakashi that he only told Naruto to be the ~7th~ Hokage, and he, Kakashi, has to become the 6th. He then gives Kakashi his ghost sharingan eyes. Obito can apparently give him ghost eyes that turn into real flesh eyes, because aliens. And so double sharingan Kakashi is born!

Naruto is then seen nailing BZ to the floor as he charges after Kaguya. Sasuke gets thrown around like a pinball and Naruto launches an attack with all of the tailed beasts. This causes Kaguya to turn into a bloated bunny, badger, fox, who-knows-what monster and starts attacking them wildly. Naruto tells Sasuke to be careful and avoid the hands because they will absorb him. And wouldn't you know it, Sakura happens to be running for her life from a monster hand! Naruto yells at Sasuke to save her with his eye. He starts to activate it when a giant hands comes out of nowhere and grabs Sakura. Naruto thinks it was Sasuke that saved Sakura and looks back to thank him, only to see it wasn't Sasuke.

It was Kakashi! He now (apparently temporarily?) has a perfect susanoo! And it has a little mask just like him, how cute! Sasuke pouts about it, while Sakura looks on amazed. The chapter ends with Kakashi vowing to protect the future.

So, yeah, this chapter is HILARIOUS. It's like a fanfiction come to life.

Also, I have an issue and I wonder if anyone else is having this problem - are people having trouble finding a copy of The Plague Stone (August's book)? My entire county's public library system doesn't have it, and it's not at Barnes & Noble (in-store or online, as far as I can tell). I can find it on Amazon, but only a few. What gives? Is it just a really uncommon book? I'd rather not spend money buying and shipping it from Amazon (I have a gift card fro B&N I was going to use), but I will if that's the only option. I'd also rather not pirate it. Any tips? Anyone else having trouble?

I really want to point to these pictures as a reference for my hair dresser, but I just can't bring pictures my anime-waifu.

Would you people mind helping me out a bit by finding pictures of real life people with a similar hair style?

I've tried searching for "short wavy hair" and variations thereof, but most people in these photos don't match the style or have naturally flat hair(and I have 3A curls).

Also, I've never had bangs before. Has anybody with curls experience with that?
