The role models I find it easiest to follow have always been fictional. With real people, you never know what skeletons they have in their closet. With fictional characters, on the other hand, the inspiration comes without the potential for baggage.

This doesn't bother me in fic but it does in original media. Like I can't tell you how many times I thought a show had an interesting concept or potential that it never lived up to.

I know sometimes people recommend fic for my problem, but to me fic doesn't "fix" things because I'll still really only recognize the canon.

Yeah I've had friends who were involved in BJD fandom and it sounds like a nightmare.

Though I will say, I don't think it's nice to judge people for spending money on a hobby they enjoy. A lot of those super expensive dolls are really nice and if someone wants to buy it, more power to them. It's not any more ridiculous then other things people spend money on for their hobbies.

It's probably because overweight people don't get a lot of cute characters so I can see why people are attracted to her, whether or not they are comfortable with her original intent.

If you find her ugly, then you find her ugly. That doesn't mean other people do though. Beauty is not an objective thing.
