Sailor Moon Crystal

Can somebody explain this to me?
I started watching it out of idle curiosity, because Sailor Moon was one of those childhood things I totally missed. And holy hell, even with viewing it as a children's series, it's bad. Forget the fact that their budget was apparently 3 yen, the scripting is godawful, and they seem to be utterly allergic to tension or mystery in any form.
There's zero buildup to the character relations, and Usagi is beyond whiny. I wish the other sailor scouts would comment on how much it sucks to have them fighting and Usagi just standing there crying, do they not have feelings about this?

Does it get better, is what I'm asking? Was the original anime a lot better, and it's just that Crystal is shit?

Not the ones that were just kind of disappointing, the truly bad ones. Did you like Teen Wolf 2 or The Matrix: Revolutions? Can you still sing lyrics from that Bobby Brown song from Ghostbusters 2? Did Tom Everett Scott somehow save An American Werewolf in Paris for you? Come on, you can tell me if you love Superman III (but if you tell me you like Superman IV, I will have to disavow all knowledge of you, sorry).

Mine are Speed 2: Cruise Control, Grease 2, and Jaws 3-D. They are bad, but damn if I don’t enjoy watching them.
