Tie-in novels

Do you read them? Do you find they enhance or damage the movie/tv experience for you?


For me it entirely depends on the author. I was reading a Transformers tie-in novel, but it was by Alan Dean Foster (aka burger boy) and just irritated me to no end. Whereas Kieth RA DeCandido has written a lot of tie ins that I liked quite a lot.

What's the one topic/ person/ era you've always been fascinated in?

For me it's Robert Kennedy/ The Cuban Missile Crisis. The 60s were just a fascinating time.

ATTN Secret Maker Who Buys Relief Fan Works For Self As A Way To Get Presents!

So there was a secret maker awhile back who admitted that s/he bought gifts from various fandom relief efforts (ex. helping Haiti or the Philippines) because that was the only time that s/he'd get presents but it made her/him feel bad.

Anyway, if you're that person (or you just like fandom exchanges) I thought that fandom_stocking might be up your alley. It's a gifting thing where you get a "stocking" and strangers who can do/give whatever you asked for fill your requests (ex. fanfic, fanart, vegetarian recipes). And apparently no one ever goes away empty-handed. (I, uh, haven't done it personally but it looks fun!)

So, if you see this, I hope you'll pop over and at least look it over.

Earlier tonight I watched telly with my grandmother (who I live with) when a new TV series (about the gay community in Stockholm in the 80s/90s when HIV/AIDS first started appearing) came on. I wanted to see it and Gran didn't switch the channel, so we started watching it. But then there was a semi-graphic gay sex scene and I felt so awkward and had to work so hard to not burst into awkward giggling. I ended up rushing out of the living room saying I had to study instead. Guess I have to watch it online from now on! It was just so, so awkward...

So, has any awkward situations happened to you guys recently? (or not so recently even!)

Secret 1 - Uptown Girls (film)

I know this is not a Big Fandom movie, but I kind of really love it. After Murphy died, it made it hard to watch. But I watched it again and remembered how hopeful the ending made me.

I like to think that Rae treated Molly like a surrogate aunt after the ending. Like, when she is trying to transition from child-to-teenager fashionably, she would go see Molly. When a new stupid movie came out, they had Molly-Rae nights where they went and saw it and got diner food after. Because Rae really needed someone like that. I was a lot like Rae as a child, and I had someone like that.

That's why it bothered me when Murphy passed away, I realized, I'm terrified of my Molly leaving.
