Worldbuilding?

I'm looking at a screen full of various worldbuilding documents (ABO world, D/s world, an Avatar AU of Avengers, my version of a daemon world, a fusion/AU with different politics from canons or reality, etc.) And I think I need to stop. But it's so fun!

So I figured I'd pop in and ask you guys. What are some fun world you've built (regardless of whether you wrote anything in it)? What are some of your favorite details you've thought up of, or like to think about?

Let's just make this a fanfic-centric worldbuildling thread. :)

Magic Possibilities

So from the beginning of this story I had the idea of magic in this story of mine to include a lot of math. Like equations are spells and numbers have magical properties. I'm just now sorta realized that my ideas still are kinda vague. I find myself trying to think about how this could work and how to further develop the idea. Magic is divided up into order magic and chaos magic instead of "light" and "dark" and in the story , despite the fact that chaotic magic is regulated that both kinds can be good as well as harmful.

(I also have alchemy as a kind of sub-branch and being a lot like chemistry.)

So any thoughts as to how I could make a "number magic" system work? I just want to see what you guys think. Thought it would be a fun discussion.

I've been staring at my AO3 works page for awhile, and it's kind of made me curious what the average Kudo/Like/Favorite:Hit ratio is.

If you're just going straight stats, my highest-hit fic (Harry Potter) has 612 hits and 26 kudos, or 1 kudo for every 23 hits (1:23). But if you factor hits that in all likelihood are kudo-ers returning for a new chapter, and there are 12 chapters (26x12), it's more like 26 kudos for every 336 hits, or 1 kudo for every 8 hits. That's pretty good, I think.

My newest fic, a Teen Wolf WIP published Aug 4 and last updated Aug. 11, has 11 kudos in 259 hits (1:23), but following the same assumption above, it works out to 11:204 (1:18).

How bout y'all? Share some stats on your most-hit and most-recent fics, if you dare. (I have a feeling I'm going to feel really inadequate by the end of this thread...).

I got the complete blu-ray edition today (almost killed me to spend that much money but I love it so) and am having a happy nostalgia-filled day marathoning it with the new English dub (not super-pleased about some of the choices, but so much better than Cardcaptors that I don't care all that much.)

[That having been said, would anyone here be interested in buying my old set of Pioneer Dvds? The entire series (but no movies because for some reason they don't seem to be included in the full set) in 18 dvds, the original uncut Japanese version with subtitles. $100 + shipping, I can contact you through lj, and I have good references on ebay if needed.]

Did you ever love this series like I do? Everyone's all about Sailor Moon lately, but Sakura is still my favorite Magical Girl of all time!

So Secret 9 got me thinking, who here on F!S has watched Moral Orel , from Adult Swim? On suggestion of some people on a different site I marathoned the entire series a few weeks ago. Like the OP from 9, I'm not an atheist, have not been around a lot of really Christian people, etc. and I'm not sure if I got a lot of what was being said in the show, though I liked it well enough. I guess what I'm asking, besides general opinions about the show, is whether it means more or makes more sense if you have/had a Christian upbringing or been raised in a Christian community.

It's been a weird, annoying week so far and we're only halfway through, so I need to vent about this for a sec.

The kinds of people annoying me right now:

Retired parents who call you during regular working hours "just to see what you're up to" (and like a tool, you answer the phone because it might be an emergency, although you know they just want to chat) and then they don't take the hint when you say "Okay, but I’m at work right now, so..."

Women who do not want to sit on the seat in public restrooms, but they don't lift up the seat, either, so in the process of hovering over the seat to pee, they splash urine all over it and then they don’t wipe it off WTF PEOPLE?!

Men in their late 40s or older who speak wistfully of how they want to settle down, get married, and have kids "someday." If that's not just a line, you might want to get on that, maybe? (I don't mean older guys who really wanted this all along and couldn't make it happen, I mean older guys who act it's something they'll probably get around to eventually...)

What were some of your first impressions of a movie, book, television series, et. that were proven entirely wrong once you actually watched/read it?

For me, I had the impression that Supernatural was about Dean finding a long-lost brother with no knowledge of monsters, and convincing Sam to come with him while showing him the ropes of monster-hunting. (I kinda wish that had been the actual plot.)

When I saw the trailer for the first How to Train Your Dragon movie, I thought the night fury Hiccup took down was a pregnant female, and he would raise Toothless from an egg. Probably because that was how every other dragonriding series went.

Recs for super-affectionate gen fics

SO I spent basically all my fandom-related time for the past three weeks inhaling truckloads of smut, UST, shippy fluff, and angsty romance for my newest OTP. Consequently, I am in a cuddly mood but am totally maxed out on romance for the time being, and therefore have a sudden great hankering for totally unromantic but blatantly affectionate gen fic for a change of pace.

Friendship fics are preferred, but affectionate family relationships or parent-figure affection or even human-pet animal stuff is welcome. I'm not really fussed about the fandom, as long as the fic isn't, like, novel-length.

The catch is: you have to do it in the form of a tweet, i.e. 140 characters maximum (English please; no cheating by using more compact languages!).

Everyone else plays the role of followers, who freely interpret that tweet in as many ways as possible, the more awful the better.

Follower 1: Life ends at 42. Mass suicides.
