It is my birthday on Saturday! I'm being indecisive about what kind of cake to make. Or possibly a pie; I did a chocolate rum pie last year. I usually default to some kind of lemon cake (I have a good lemon chiffon cake recipe), but I think I'd like to something different.

With regards to your fanfiction or fanart, how do you measure how well it's been received? What makes you feel if a fic/art has been successful? Number of Kudos? Number of Comments?

How to measure other works? (Like 5000 Kudos is good in something like SPN but 5 is excellent in no-name-fandom-#7. Etc.)

What Manga Are You Following Right Now?

In Print or Scanlation, no judgment. (I read scans of some of them first, then buy print when it reaches stateside.)

I got the first volume of Drug and Drop today. Am also following Skip Beat, Kimi Ni Todoke, Kaze Hikaru, Xxxholic Rei, Tsubasa: Nirakanai no Hen(?), and Natsume's Book of Friends. Oh, and I'm trying only digital-buying Say I Love You. It's actually the shortest follow list I've had in the 12 years since I discovered manga on that one shelf in Borders...

Advice in regards to bullying

So, my sister called me and told me my neice was being bullied. She is 16 and overweight (she also dresses very gothy with odd makeup). I guess someone photoshopped her face onto a whale.

I have NO idea what to tell her. I don't want to be victim blame-y but I mentioned last time I saw her (last year) I did mention she might want to think about losing weight. She gained alot very quickly and doesn't seem to care.

So i want to offer her some advice without making her feel worse.

Jury Duty Advice

I have jury duty coming up (I can call in the night before to see if it's been canceled) and I'm already panicking about getting chosen to be on the jury. I've done this shit before and it was a massive waste of time (we had one person on the jury who wanted to play "12 Angry Men" but the guy on trial was so obviously guilty, it was ridiculous to be deliberating at all; it was a case involving kidnapping an older man and stealing his wallet, if you were wondering).

My state has BS rules about jury duty (can't use the excuse of work or school) and I really need to focus on my college coursework this semester. Do you guys (and gals) have any ideas for ways I can get out of it? I've already been losing sleep thinking about the backlog of homework this will create.
