I've been reading this weird comic, Wasteland (despite coming out around the same time, it's nothing to do with the game I've been playing, though the shared title is why I started reading) by John Ostrander and Del Close, and I'm struck by two things: One, this is the kind of stuff DC made Vertigo for, and two, man Del Close is OUT THERE.

Anyway the 5th issue had a problem where it printed with the cover for the 6th issue, which is bad because it had a rotating cast of artists and that meant the cover artist's work was nowhere to be seen for that issue... so they reprinted #5 a week later with the proper cover and ran #6 with a blank cover.

They got this in the letter column:



And I just look at the modern-day industry's obsession with variant covers and sob myself to sleep.

It's good to finally see some common sense.

It seems an incredibly hypocritical approach that's taken by a lot of modern liberals where the state is both to blame for being too invasive in our lives, and at the same time not being invasive enough by tracking thousands of muslims who've shared messages with a pro ISIS twitter account.

Those thousands being a comical lowball of the likely amount.

You don't get to have it two ways, and you certainly don't get to pretend to be a spook and tell them the obvious mistakes they've made because of your extensive experience in what?

Inspired by finding the entire run of the short-lived TV series "The River" on my backup drive and bingeing it all last week. I think my best friend and I might be the only two people on the planet who watched it, but I was thoroughly charmed by the way they made the found-footage style feel organic, the great scenery, and Paul Blackthorne.

It's really more of (at least from where I've been) "terrible facial expressions and stiffly drawn poses from an artist who's been at it for 10+ years, and who makes $10k a month on Patreon." This strip once had Claire's eyes uncolored and Marten's bed the same blue as the walls. Later JJ corrected these by paint-bucketing the bed, and you can still see light blue bits. There's no excuse for that kind of shoddiness for $10,000 a month.
