I hate it when Big Bangs or the sort don't screen the artist/author claiming. It always feels like middle school to me, when teams would be picked in sports and the non-fit and unpopular kids got picked last.

And it doesn't even matter whether why work is being claimed or if I'm doing the claiming. No matter how nice the mods have been up to that point, if they don't screen the claiming part I lose a bit of respect for them. :/

RPF squick?

Someone posted something about this a while ago and didn't get much response, but secret #10 reminded me of it. The poster a while ago said they thought that people who have been in fandom (in general) for a long time are less squicked by RPF than people who are relatively new. Maybe it's living through popslash, LotRPS, and the heyday of J2, maybe it's a seen-it-all thing, but I think that's probably true.

What say you, f!s? Are you squicked by RPF?

Has anyone had issues with the create function? I spent a good couple of hours or more on a level but now when I switch over to play mode to test it, I get some random weird angle of the ground and nothing else. I don't know what I did wrong and I'm heartbroken. Its my first custom level and I don't want to start over again. Has anyone had this happen? Does anyone know what I did wrong and how to fix it?

typing quick before another laptop crash but i have an hp pavilion dv model machine, which got recalled a few years ago for sucking a class action lawsuit regarding irreparable defects. long story short, i didn't find out about the recall until a week ago, so i can't get compensation (i don't think?) but have no money to replace my laptop. i desperately need to do something though, because it's gotten to the point where it crashes more than two dozen times a day. my BSOD reports always read different driver errors and other stuff so i can't really offer any specifics besides "the whole thing is broken" but i'm pretty sure my machine has significant hard drive corruption.

basically is there any way i can at least alleviate some of the crashing? i need the laptop for school and again i can't replace it because i'm broke (which is fantastic, by the way, i highly recommend it).

And I could cry. The doctor mentioned in there, Metzger, he treated me when I was a teenager for my hypothyroid disorder. If I'd had any idea back then, if I'd had more education on the subject back then to know I was trans then I could have talked to him years ago. Now I'm not a teenager anymore and I have no idea what to do or who to talk to. It's not like my parents haven't been fantastic about it to the extent they understand. I'm thinking of linking them that article so they can get it a little better.

The fact that I do have hypothyroid has made me think I'd have difficulty getting hormone treatments. To know that the doctor I had as a teenager did this sort of thing would have helped a lot and I maybe would have been able to come to a realization sooner. I just. Ugh. I'm 23 now so I don't think I can really call him or anything? And the only therapist I've found that can recommend people for hormone treatment is a long way from where I live. Plus I'm horrible on the phone anyway.

What do I do, F!S? Should I attempt to contact him? Should I wait and talk with my parents (like I said they've been supportive)? I'm at my wits' end with this.

Rant (people having stupid opinion about serious stuff) - TW: Abuse

TW: Abuse, violence against women.

So, I was talking with this girl today who I am kind of friends with (we have known each other for a couple months now, but we share classes and see each other almost daily so she's one of my best friends at the moment), telling her about something that happened during the Psychoanalysis class, thinking she would think the same as me, knowing she hates Freud as much as I do.

So, the teacher was talking about a certain passive satisfaction that comes with being hit and said that it had a very feminine connotation, that there was a female satisfaction in being hit, that's why there are phrases like "Hit me and call me [female name]" (that's a "funny" phrase in my language, no idea where it comes from or if there is a similar one in others).
After saying that she realized it sounded awful and took a couple minutes to make it clear that she was talking about fantasies and not condoning violence against women, and that abused women didn't have any "satisfaction" from that.

So, I was telling my friend because we hate Freud and his stupid theory and the stupid shit he says about women, but I was happy the teacher took the time to clear that up.
"Well, but abused women do feel some satisfaction from it, don't they?"
*dumbfounded*
"I mean, why would they stay in those situations if they didn't like it?"
*kind of boiling now* Well, it's not that they like it, maybe they don't know how to get out of the situation, specially if they have kinds and no means to maintain them
"Nah, there are tons of shelters and such, they could go there and take the kids there if they really didn't like it, but they do"
And then class started and I couldn't reply further, which maybe was for the better because I didn't want to fight.

UGH I hate when you find someone you really like and suddenly they come up with shit like this, I don't want to be angry with her but I kinda am.

tl;dr: My friend thinks abused women don't get out of those situations because they secretly "like" it, and I weep for humanity.
