Everyone being REALLY really good at what they do, elaborate plans that work even when they fail, smart people being smart and coming out on top (except against Sterling, because he is a magnificent bastard and He Always Wins)

How did you start writing fic?

I ask as someone who's virtually never written and shared fanfic. For the last several months I've considered doing so (after years of saying its not for me, though i do read it). But i get cold feet every time.

For those of you who write, fanfiction or original fiction, how old were you? What was your first fic? (You don't have to answer/share it if you don't want to.)
how often do you write?
Do you browse anon/kink memes for prompts that piqué your interest or do you have enough plot bunnies of your own?
Do you prefer writing longer or shorter works?
Do you like to concentrate on one fandom for a while as far as writing goes, or do you jump between a few?
...Or are you like me, who can come up with ideas but don't have the cajones to actually write?

Dating Site/Virginity Grossness Rant

So I'm on a dating website where I've explicitly stated that I want to be married before I have sex (I'm a straight female looking for a straight male). This is a decision I've come to after years of thought, knowing myself and my own needs and desires and beliefs. (And no, I don't judge people who have premarital sex, there's nothing wrong with that choice either.)

And while I mostly get nice and polite messages that don't draw too much attention to this part of my profile or at least are nice about it, I've gotten several messages from men that read like this:

"So are you a virgin?" (no hello, no nothing, just that)

"You should know that you are missing out on a big part of life..." followed by a whole incredibly condescending paragraph about how my choices are wrong -- without knowing any of my reasoning behind them and not bothering to ask

"I wasn't going to write to you, but then I saw you didn't want to have pre-marital sex, and I like a challenge"

"For the record, staying a virgin until marriage is the worst mistake you'll ever make"

I usually delete these messages before I get the urge to respond with, "no, the biggest mistake I would ever make is sleeping with you" or, "OH MY GOD YOU'VE OPENED MY EYES CAN YOU COME OVER AND DO ME RIGHT NOW?" or a simple, "the fuck is wrong with you, do you actually believe I find this message attractive in any way?"

But now I'm wondering if I should just keep any letters I get and put them up altogether on tumblr. I may as well get something out of this idiocy, even if it is just notes. The part that really fucking creeps me out is that I don't believe that any or most of these guys are just trolling me. So what the hell is going through their minds when they write to me like that?

Brainless narrators and heartless narrators (a non-fandom secret, apparently)

So I'm reading a ton of relatively modern books right now, and I'm noticing these two kinds of narrators who, essentially, are both born from the "show not tell" rule. Some of the authors I encounter follow the aforementioned rule so thoroughly that they start showing things from inside first-person narrators without recounting any of their thoughts and feelings. I do not mind the trend as such (in fact, I find it very interesting), but some aspects of it take the characters right into the uncanny valley.

Like, it is supposed to be an actual person, why does nothing happen in their head?? The way they're written, they resemble a patient of a mental ward with some peculiar sort of personality disorder. I'm not sure why these people around them don't freak out every time there's human interaction happening.

If the majority of the first-person narrator's thoughts are omitted and the feelings are described as mechanical processes with no or little interpretation, I start to think that the real storyteller is The Alien sitting in the presumed narrator's intestines.

Your opinion, f!s? Is it a thing? Do you mind it?

Secret 1 - One Direction

Not secret: I am a twenty-two year-old college student. I am known in my circle of friends and classmates as some sort of music/cinema snob. I pride myself on not watching/listening to crap. And most of the time I do act as expected from this reputation...

The secret: I had to be the responsible adult, and take my thirteen year-old sister to their show. As shameful as it is, I love the hell out of it. I am now officially a closeted Directioner...
