I'm relatively new to Dreamwidth, and want to start posting a fantasy story I'm working on. Are there any good communities (here, or elsewhere - I guess LJ if it's still alive) for fic sharing, or even better, a group for sharing fantasy writing tips/asking for advice/etc?

Can anyone rec me some actual good Sherlock Holmes novels? (Not the original Doyle canon, I mean the...I know it's not called the expanded universe, but you know what I mean. The unauthorized sequels or whatever.) There was that one secret about an apparently really shitty one a few days ago, but I'm curious whether there's any good ones.

So, I want to watch an adaptation of The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, since I just re-read it for the first time in a few years, but there's about three bajillion film adaptations of it and I don't know which one's the best. Can anyone give me suggestions?

How Bad is the Sequel to Mulan?

Mulan is one of my favorite movies, but I've never seen the sequel because I heard it wasn't good and I didn't want to bother. But I have it on Netflix now and I'm curious and I want to know: is it really really awful? Like, on a scale of Disney Direct-To-Video sequels topping out at "Aladdin and the King of Thieves (yeah I know it wasn't good exactly but I find that shit enjoyable) and hitting the bottom at that God-awful Pocahontas Movie I don't even want to talk about.

It doesn't have to be fantasmagorical or anything, just...does it ruin the characters so bad it stands a chance to spoil the first film for me? Is any of it so OOC that it will burn my eyeballs? Let me know what you think.

Basically give a bio of a Sue-esque "OC" character and the person after word has to come up with a way to make them a salvageable character. Reconstruct the character as much as you have to but "kill it with fire" is not an option. (no , sorry she actually IS that bad. Don't be lazy and admit defeat!) when you reply , add your own character to fix.



Here's a starter: Esmerlda Nightengale was born to two parents who originally could not have children. They sought a powerful mage who helped them because he sensed the child would achieve greatness. Esmerelda had a good childhood until a village started settling by her parents home (her parents previously were the only settlers there) the neighbors grew to resent the girl for being better then their children so her family became outcasts and moved farther away to protect their vulnerable daughter from the torment of the cruel neighbors.

Esmerelda is very good with music and when she was young girl she found she could do magic with her music because of something granted to her by the mage's 'curing of her parents'. She was sent to an uncle who sold instruments and became his apprentice. Her flaws are being naive, having freckles which she is terribly embarrassed of, and being too sensitive.
