Had my first doctor's appointment after the second A1C that led to the diabetes diagnosis. I really do feel like he's just telling me the same thing over and over (and charging me $30 to do so). Only this time because I was upset over not wanting to be diabetic (and that the nurse took my blood pressure four times -- two of which actually hurt before deciding to let the doctor do it) I got treated to a round of "But your numbers are good (for a diabetic)! It could be so much worse in all these ways..." which really felt like it amounted to "WTF are you crying for?"

But whatever. It is what it is. They finally got me set up with a glucometer and testing supplies, which I'm supposed to use a few times a week. My very first fasting glucose that I did all by myself was 92...which I thought was supposed to be pretty good?

Period Affecting Sense of Taste?

I do not think this is TMI enough to collapse. Sorry if the very word "period" makes anyone disgusted.

Anywho, does anyone here ever have changes in their sense of taste when on their period? It's really common for me to have a stronger sense of smell around that time, but this is the first time taste seems to be off. I know the two senses are related, and I know one acting up is definitely my period, so why not the other.

It's small changes. My morning vanilla yogurt tasted kind of like brown sugar, and not as sour as usual. I just had a bowl of ice cream and I feel like I missed the creaminess. Anyone ever experienced this?

baby showers

My sister-in-law is having a baby shower in a month, and I was just wondering what the general protocol is for baby showers. Is it just for the first child? First, and then if there's a large gap before the next child? What if you get remarried and it's his first but not yours? Etc!

I was just curious about what most people do in this situation, so lay your opinions/experiences on me, FS! TYVM!

Yearbooks

So I graduated from high school in '96 (wow that seems so ancient) yet I still have my high school yearbooks. Even my middle school yearbooks too (though I never got my 8th grade one) [should note that for me middle school was 6th-8th grade (11-13 years old) and high school 9th to 12th (14-18 years old)].

But I don't have any real special memories from school. Sure there are signatures from classmates but that's what you were supposed to do when you got them. Just pass them around and see who signs them. At most there's only one picture of me, the class photo.

But I just spent several hours this evening inhaling dust from cleaning out my bookshelves and yet I cannot part with the yearbooks. They are this 'special bound' book. Donating is just silly, throwing them away wasteful. I haven't even felt like looking through them. Though now that I'm thinking about it, may just do that.

Anyways, the long pointless rambling anon comes to the point: do you still have your yearbooks?

Manhwa recs?

So I'm heading to Korea and want to stock up on reading material. I'm mainly thinking manhwa (or light novels) because I still read very slowly and I want to encourage myself to read without too much suffering.

Preferably something that's up to ~15 volumes, so I can buy the entire series.

I like fantasy, science-fiction, adventure, with slice-of-life being at the bottom of the list. Lack of female fanservice would be appreciated (and I'd rather not something explicit).

Other series I like: Fullmetal Alchemist, Twelve Kingdoms, MCU, basically everything Diana Wynne Jones has ever written, LotR, Harry Potter, Zelazny's Amber series, etc.

Suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Liking a character for a friend

Has anyone else ever had a good friend really like/identify with a character you're inclined to dislike, but you have to make your peace with the character if you ever want to discuss the fandom, because your friend would be really hurt if you were hating on the character all the time?
