So, I have a theory and I'd like to see if it's backed up at all in real life.

What was TV viewing like back in the 50s, 60s and 70s (etc.)? Movie-going in the 50s,+?

My theory is that for movies like musicals with Judy Garland and Rooney (?) where they basically retold the same story over and over again with a little change here and there, they were popular because there was no VCR or DVD -- there was no getting the movie to own. So, having basically the same movie repackaged was like being able to watch the movie you love on repeat -- it ensured the basic bones of that movie would be at the movie theater pretty constantly.
Does that seem like a thing?

For TV, I wanted to know how did pre-VCR fandoms watch their shows? By which I mean, how did they get all the little details? Were reruns pretty constant or could you only really glom onto shows that did make it to reruns and you had more chances to see the episode again? Or if you missed an episode, were you screwed? How did you connect with fans before internet? Did people have a way to go over each episode? It seems like the Starsky and Hutch fandom has a really good grasp of what happened in which episode, and I was just wondering if that occurred right away.

My "best" friend (whom I now want to maim if not kill) suggested me to a coworker of hers to help said co-worker "make a website" for her jewellery. Oh, did I mention, my friend didn't bother to even fucking text me that she'd done this? Yeah, thanks. Anyhow the woman called me tonight and because I have no spine, I agreed to meet with her on Friday.

She says she's willing to pay me...and I googled to see what a freelancer making websites charges. Seems the minimum is 50$/hr (and upwards). Not sure if she'll wanna pay that much. (hey, I could price myself out of a job). This woman admits she's not good with technology and doesn't seem to want e-commerce; however she does have some web space with Vista Print (I took a quick look, but could pretty much only look at the templates--which is good, templates are good). BUT there is a monthly/annual fee. I'm not sure this woman is making enough to pay that. Obviously I'll ask her. I also think there will be instruction wrt to cameras/photos/editing and even some software (for word processing). I really don't want this to be an ongoing web mistress job.

I'm wondering if I shouldn't maybe suggest she start an Etsy shop? It looks like it's free; I couldn't easily find any in depth info on whether they charge shop owners or do they make money via advertising?

So my questions: what should I charge per hour (I'm not going below my per hour rate at my job, which is $22/hr)? I have moderate web building skills and can do a good job with graphics/colours. And should I set her up with her own website or go the Etsy route?

Or should I just say my rate's 100$/hr and scare her off? haha

Why do people get so upset about Wendy's chili?

A friend of mine posted a SHOCKING SECRETS ABOUT FOOD article on facebook a while back, and one of the things mentioned in it was Wendy's chili. It's made out of...leftover beef from the grill. I was kind of like, "...okay?" and moved on, but then, the other day, I happened to mention liking the chili. And someone said, "DON'T YOU KNOW WHAT'S THAT MADE OUT OF? LEFTOVER BEEF FROM THE GRILL!!!!!!!!" They were completely disgusted and aghast that I wasn't.

I don't understand. It's not dirty. It's not rancid. They cook hamburgers, and when bits fall off the burgers, instead of wasting them, they save them and put them in the chili. There's nothing disgusting about it. Like, hello. When you have one of their hamburgers, you are also eating beef that's been on the fucking grill. There is no difference, except one is "leftovers" and the other isn't. Do you not eat any leftovers at home? If you make or order too much food, do you just toss it all in the trash because "OH NO EWWWW LEFTOVERS THAT'S SO GROSS?"

I don't get it. I feel like people just think it's awful because they were primed to think it's awful by the shit they read about it in.

I posted this yesterday but I'm reposting it today 'cuz I was a bit late last time.

To put it real simple, a friend of mine lives in a situation best described as "FF7 Cult House, But WIth Gundam 00." As such she's in dire need of cash ASAP and is selling her custom PC. The computer I use was built by her so I can vouch for the quality of her work. She's local to the SF Bay area so if you can pick it up from her that'd be great; she will accept non-local purchases but that will be extra because she simply cannot eat the costs of shipping.

There was a book I read years ago that I'm trying to find again to re-read, but I can't remember the title or the author. I was hoping the good people of F!S would be able to help.

Three orphaned girls, from different countries, are adopted by an English man travelling Europe/the world, and sent to live in London. They all have names beginning with the same letter, P I think. They all go to ballet/performing arts school. I think one of the girls had a Russian-sounding name.

I know it's not much to go on, but... maybe someone knows it?
