Anyone else like doing it?

I used to "stalk" people on forums I posted at - I would use clues from their posts about where they lived, what their name was until I could find them elsewhere on the internet (yes, I had a lot of spare time and I was bored). I didn't do anything creepy and they never knew. It was fun in the same way as solving a puzzle.

I haven't had the opportunity to do this in a while, until I joined an online dating site. I tried to stalk someone who I found hot, but I didn't get too far. I did find some sexy pictures they'd posted on a forum, and their full name, and some artwork, but unfortunately they have a common surname and a REALLY common first name which is a pain when it comes to finding someone's facebook, address, relatives, etc. Bah, common names.

Mostly, I'm just wondering if anyone else gets the fun in putting together all the little facts people give away about themselves under their fake names and finding out who they really are without them ever knowing it.

They keep forwarding or Facebooking things which a quick check reveal to be wrong, wrong, unsubstantiated, out of date, and/or wrong. It's not like they're unable to think critically, they're smart people, but how do I educate them in the ways of internet rumors without sounding like I'm saying "Stop being so gullible!" ...which, I admit, I kind of am.
