Who are your favorite Let's Players? My absolute favorite is Stephen Plays on youtube, though I also really like AgentJR. Overall I find PewDiePie a little too obnoxious and offensive, but I did really love his Amnesia LP - his over-the-top reactions and screaming really worked for me in that one where other, tamer and more methodical LPs of the game left me bored.

Fanfiction or original fiction -- advice ?

Have any of you ever written a fanfic that successfully made the transition to original fiction? Here is my tl;dr story:

I've been working on a very long Twilight fic for maybe a year now, and I'm really invested. You can laugh if you want; I love my story. However!

In the course of writing it, the focus has drifted away from anything having to do with Twilight -- except for the setting, about half the main characters, and the presence of vampires and werewolves. It's mostly about Jessica and Lauren and their friendship, and a bunch of family and community relationships.

Part of me wants to cut it loose from Twilight, change a few names, and try to make it work as original fiction. I've put a ton of effort into it and I don't know if it even works as Twilight fic any more, or if anyone looking for Twilight fic will be interested in it. But the vampires and werewolves play a role that feels important, and so does the setting. Plus, I feel like it benefits from having Twilight as a reference point even though Bella and the vamps are barely even supporting characters most of the time. So I'm not sure what to do with it.

Has anyone had a dilemma like this -- where you weren't sure whether something wanted to be "original" or fanfic? Do you have any advice?

Popular ships you anti-ship for benign reasons

A lot of people avoid or dislike popular ships for one of two reasons: 1) they find the fans/fanfiction/fanon really irritating, or 2) they think the characters' relationship sucks or is unhealthy and they would make a shitty couple.

However, have you ever disliked a ship just because you didn't like the idea of the characters' relationship being romantic or saw their friendship (or whatever relationship they had in canon) as so strictly platonic that you didn't like the idea of them being in a romantic relationship?

I'm mostly thinking about slash, but non-canon het ships apply too!

I'm all for people who want to exercise their right to use trigger warnings in order to help other people, but I can't quite get over the inappropriateness of this one: sexual assault/harassment (doesn’t go beyond some creeper-y stuff)

Like, aside from not knowing what it's referring to (in "It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester" - ep 4.7 of SPN), why are we diluting assault to "you're being 'creeper-y' whatever the fuck that means".

Whoooo it sure took a long time to settle in from moving. But for once, I and my room mate managed to do 90% of the work ourselves.

Unfortunately this meant it took four whole days of 12 hour moving shifts, with barely a lunch break to be had. But now that I'm recovered (and totally unpacked), how about the rest of you tell me about what you've done lately that challenged you?

I was kind of surprised that a dub came out so quickly, but I thought it was okay. Mikasa's voice wasn't really what I was expecting and I thought Eren's was a bit off (but then that might change it a bit after the time skip anyway) but other than that I thought it was fine so far. I mean, maybe not great but I think some of the extreme hate it's already getting is a bit over the top. At least wait a couple of episodes until some of the rest of the main cast is introduced, jeez. Did anyone else see it on sunday?

A fandom without fanwork to enjoy

It's gotten really hard for me to enjoy some fandoms. Avengers/Thor in particular - I don't even block that much stuff with my AO3 savior, but of the 20 fics per page, 12-15 are usually hidden and the rest either doesn't interest me or I'm suspicious if it's another untagged surprise M-preg or some shit. I guess that fandom just isn't for me anymore.

Do you have any fandoms that you'd like to enjoy but just can't because of the lack of fanwork relevant to your interests?

Chrome has been running slower and slower for the past couple weeks, to the point where it's much faster and more reliable to browse the Internet on my phone. IE seems to be unaffected, but I hate IE. What browser do you recommend? (It needs to be something that can run ad-blocking software--I'm not buying cars or insurance, and I'm not sure why everyone wants to sell them to me.)

I would love to see everyone read Matthew Costello's Vacation.

It's a horror novel that takes place in the not to distant future where a virus wipes out almost all major plant life, taking everyone's food. Survivors relied on two sources for sustenance, artificial food and other human beings. The ones who became cannibals, have slowly gone crazy and have turned into zombie like things.

I would like to see if everyone was freaked out by this book as I was. Also, it's a blink and it's over read. Something that won't take up a great chunk of your time.
