There was a time between the waning age of Hanna-Barbera and the dawning age of the Disney Renaissance, when Rankin-Bass flew the skies... free and unencumbered...

Woohoo, the day has finally arrived. In case you missed the previous posts, we will be watching:

Flight of Dragons - The classic tale of a D&D nerd who gets sucked into Fantasyland and battles wizard!Darth Vader.


The Last Unicorn - A kickass unicorn searches the globe for her lost unicorn sisters, wrestling with harpies and demon bulls and romantic feelings along the way. Holy fuck, I scrubbed through my copy to check the quality and I am already pre-depressed, guys.


The Hobbit - AKA the full plot of Peter Jackson’s 9 hour Hobbit trilogy in less than 90 minutes. (I think the entire content of Battle of the Five Armies comprises, like, seven minutes of this.)


And then maybe Return of the King and Lord of the G-Strings depending on who's still around after that. Will be playing clips/trailers of other relatively obscure animation for intermissions and/or fanfic readings if anyone's got some. (Ain't no party like a Rankin-Bass party!)

The art style in these images looks super familiar to me. I remember watching some animated fantasy movie as a young child but I only remember one scene where this white wolf climbed up a mountain to attack a monster whose shrieks were unbearable and he pushed it off a cliff. Does that sound familiar? Is it in one of these?

Guys, how do I not panic about...well, anything ever? Also, how do I stop it once it starts? Other than contacting my doctor and asking if he can do anything with my meds, because I've already done that, but it's still a month till I actually see him. Food/drink availability varies, so I'm mainly after tactics I can do with only my body and/or mind, but maybe someone else who needs it is looking here, so feel free to share those too.

Difference between what you write and read

For fanfiction, what kind of stories are you willing/like to write but you wouldn't be very interested in reading? Or that you would be disappointed to receive as a gift in an exchange? Etc.

What kind of stories would you want someone to write for you or that you would prompt but you would never or almost never write?

Basically, what stories only go one way?

Feel free to add any other differences in your writing/reading tastes.

A question to the svelte ladies of F!S

How do you not feel hungry all the time?

I want to weigh 110 pounds (loss of about 17 pounds) which for me would be a bmi of 20.1 and used the following site to calculate my calorie needs:

It gave me 1580 calories a day. So I planned out a diet, making sure to count every last calorie according to the calorie count on boxes. My diet is mostly lean meat/eggs/fish/lentils/rice/fruit/fresh vegetables/yogurt.

But…I feel like I'm starving half the day. It really really sucks. I always feel exhausted and sometimes it's difficult to fall asleep because I'm hungry. When I do fall asleep, I dream about food.

I have no energy and I'm constantly on edge waiting until the next time I can eat. What do you do to combat this? Or are you just hungry all the time?

Pet Peeves

Have not done one of these in a while! But I am currently riding in a car with someone who won't stop flipping thru songs on the radio. This is made even worse every time they stop on a song to listen to like one verse before changing it. Makes me want to take a fork to their hand.

What are some pet peeves that make you want to pull out your hair or someone else's?

What are some things in fiction or real life that you predicted happening a certain way and ended being proven totally wrong about? It doesn't necessarily have to be a negative thing; it could be something that you thought would go really badly but actually ended up being a good thing

example: Before HIMYM's finale and when people were rampantly speculating that the Mother would be revealed to be dead, I was 100% positive that they wouldn't kill her off because I thought it would be too cliche and stupid and I rolled my eyes at all the people who firmly believed it would happen. It turns out that I was terribly wrong and the show WAS that stupid. I would also like to take this time to formally apologize to the people I doubted.

I'm having a ton of fun with a roguelike called One Way Heroics, and I also picked up a visual novel called Cherry Tree High Comedy Club. I'd love to discuss what's worth picking up.

But what I'm really making this topic for, in a response to this comment, is the reviews.

I'm currently reading this philosophy book on capitalism and the news cycle, and it's fairly interesting... and THEN I got to a page where the guy is arguing that "emotional states have been pathologized to sell pharmaceuticals" and that people who are on medication for disorders like bipolar and depression have had their "nervous systems modified".

What?

I mean, by all means, you can criticize the pharmaceutical industry and it's scientific studies, you can criticize a tendency to focus more on medications than long-term changing of behaviour and thought patterns.

But the instant you start equating depression with "just feeling sad" or panic attacks as a normal state of being... that's where I stop taking you seriously.

Apparently people taking medication for their bipolar are tools of capitalism, now.
