Star Wars Part 2!

Time for part 2! The shitty movies are done! The holiday special is taken (sorry) so I'm changing it up a bit! There's a poll!

Obviously we are showing the next two movies. The rebels had a hell of a victory, but now the other guys are taking them serious, and there's hell to pay! THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.



Then, they got their licks, but now Luke is back, with one less hand but a lot more experience! It's time to finish it! THE RETURN OF THE JEDI.

Finally, we gonna ewok! The only question is, which one? The Ewok adventure, or The Battle for Endor (more people die in the second, but you'll not necessarily hate them as much?)

First oen: Wicket the Ewok and his friends agree to help two shipwrecked human children on a quest to find their parents.

Second: The army of the Marauders, led by by King Terak and the witch Charal attack the Ewoks village. The parents and the brother of Cindel all die in this attack. Cindel and the Ewok Wicket escape and in a forrest they meet Teek a naughty and very fast animal. Teek takes them to a house in which a old man, Noa, lives. Like Cindel he also crashed with his Starcruiser on Endor. Together they fight Terak and Charal.

The point at which it becomes gratuitous and seems like it's the writers trying to be edgy and not the characters being naturally foul-mouthed.

Where that point is depends on what canon, circumstances, and setting ofc.

For me, it's when it feels like the writers wanted to show they're not afraid to be edgy, so the characters have to say "fuck" every other line. There was a British comedy being advertised - I forget what it was called, basically an American guy traveling for business gets a woman pregnant - and it was billed as so intelligent, yet every line was "fuck" "asshole" "cunt." In everyday, normal conversation. I don't mind "fuck" or "asshole" (I do have issues with "cunt"), but every other line?

On the other hand, if a zombie's chasing after a group of people, I hardly think they're going to go "oh, gosh darn it to heck," either. Although even then, if that's half the dialogue it starts to get annoying.

It doesn't bother me at all - if it feels natural. If it feels really try hard it bothers me, but not because I'm offended, just because the dialogue sounds really try hard.

I think dialogue just needs to make sense for the characters. And adding a bunch of swear words can be a cheap way to make your character seem really "serious" or badass, but there's nothing inherently wrong with using swear words either.

It only bugs me when it's unrealistic, and that can be in several contexts:

1. Swearing that sounds like it was thrown in because the writers were trying too hard to make the characters cool and edgy. A pretty good example of this is the movie Juno.

2. Swearing that sounds like it's inappropriate for the character. Can't currently think of an RL movie example, but having ...say... Batman or Captain America using strings of expletives for no apparent reason.

3. Having characters who would reasonably be prone to verbal ejaculation abstain from swear words. A good example of this is EVERY PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN MOVIE.

I don't mind it in movies/tv. I actually can't stand when they DON'T have cursing for characters that would totally curse.


Can't listen to it during comedy shows (with a comedian). It makes me too nervous!

So, my trial for Adobe's PDF reader has expired. I need to renew so I can update my resume... but I really can't afford to pay for much right now.

I hate to ask this, but does anyone have any torrent links? Ugh. I barely know how to torrent, but I can learn. Or I at least know a couple of people who could help me out. Either way, all I need is one torrent. I do have uTorrent, at least.

I really need to make these resumes though. Word just doesn't cut it at all.

I'm a girl, so I don't have to worry about it. But there is really no baldness in my family, so I feel like maybe I should have been a guy so the no-baldness genes wouldn't be wasted.

It annoys me when every single female character between age 15 to 50 gets a physical description that includes something about her breasts. Even when she's not in a sexual scene, she's just... I don't know, at work or something. You never read scenes that go like:

Joseph Josephesson stood up from his desk and stretched, the fabric of his pants pulling tight against his crotch to reveal the generous bulge of his cock underneath. He'd thought law school was hard, but being on the fast track for partner was worse. He couldn't remember the last time he ate a meal that wasn't out of a styrofoam takeout box.

Writing Argument-Redeemed Bully Character

So in a writing circle I've been in for a while there's been a disagreement. One person, who has the most written and involved story of all of us, has a one character in her story who at the beginning was a bully to some of the main characters. After character development (that involved their attitude having consequences and knocking them down a peg or two) they end up befriending their victims when they got older and becoming a part of the team. There's been tons of onscreen character development for them. We saw some of their bullying early on and most of it was implied.

There are a few people in the group who can't seem to let the characters' past go. They take offense to anything good happening to them and when anything positive happens then they're complaining or grumbling about them getting things they don't deserve. Complaints of "easily forgiven" and "Mary Sue" are usual.

They once claimed it was offensive and the author should 'listen to victims of bullying'. At least until the rest of us speak up and point out story evidence of the characters' development. Then that goes out the window.

I got just about tired of their complaining today about the "universe handing them things" and told them "Maybe the universe cares more about who they are now then who they were as a kid."

So, F!S, what do you feel about redeeming bully characters? Personally I think it's backwards-ass bullshit to be all "NEVER FORGIVE NEVER FORGET" to a character that was a bully at one point no matter how much they try to change since. How are they supposed to change or even have reason to if no one will get past when they show positive steps and a willingness to change?

Having realized that both Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy were in King Arthur as Tristan and Galahad, respectively, I kind of want, like, past lives fic. I mean, King Arthur was pretty bad, but I do remember Hugh Dancy looking good and the throwing knives scene being funny, but I didn't really clock Mads Mikkelsen in it at the time, other than sort of wondering about his accent.

What should you be doing

I should be:
* Editing my Yuletide gift and/or treats
* Working on any number of WIPs
* Working on a new fic idea that won't leave me alone
* Cleaning house.

I'm not doing any of those things. Because all I want to do is binge watch a show, even though the show I'm binge watching is the source for the new fic idea, and I can tell the farther into the series it gets, the farther my muse runs away screaming, so if I'm going to write it I ought to do it now.
