Personally I'd write it anyway because I think people worry too much about coming up with an original premise and not enough about the execution which is usually very different between various stories that may sound similar at first.

I don't know this show, but as as someone who's once been on the verge of being committed:

-OP, educate yourself and know your rights in terms of what local laws are.

- In many places they cannot hold you against your will unless you're a danger to others or yourself. So even if you feel you are, never admit to this. Lie if you have to.

-If you are a minor and believe your parents would have you committed find an adult advocate that will have your best interest at heart.

-If you are an adult and are financially able, try to find help for your issues on your own terms. If you're not, try to find coping strategies until you can

-I know people might hate my for saying this, but I believe getting committed is not in your best interest even if you have issues. My friends who were did not come out for the better. Do not let yourself be talkied into it voluntarily (they will do that if they have no legal reason to commit you). Stay strong and best of luck.

You don't sound stupid. I've cried over figure skaters multiple times. If you get that attached to an athlete, it sometimes happens. I cried during Mao's Sochi exhibition, and the amount of times I was an emotional wreck during Michelle Kwan's career is uh, more than two I'll just say (I still can't watch her Nagano skate, as beautiful as it was, and I was inconsolable the day she got injured and pulled out in Torino).

I've never seen this show but I hate how teen girls are portrayed on TV, too. It's such a tried cliche for TV teen daughters to be, usually, really resentful and difficult. Somehow, TV teen sons are granted some range of character types they can occupy but 90% of TV teen daughters are screaming, hateful brats.
