So I have this friend, and I think I might sort of be in love with her, but I'm not sure, and it got me thinking. I don't know if I've ever been in love - I've never been sure (and at 24 I feel like I "should" know what it feels like to be in love, or at least have come close enough to be able to extrapolate or something, but... I don't know if I do?). So, F!S, I am curious. In your experience, how *do* you know? How do you figure out if you love a friend as a friend, or if there's more to it? How do you figure out if you're in love in general?

We had a Graceling secret not too long ago, which got me to reread those two books. I think they're entertaining, but average. That said, I noticed a ridiculous amount of similarities, which I'll post in a reply to myself so I don't clog things up with people who are talking about what I'm saying.

Any of you noticed books by the same authors that seem to follow a pretty specific pattern?

How to seek help for ADHD/BPD?

I'm an adult and in more recent years I've come to suspect that I have ADD/ADHD. Growing up I wasn't always hyperactive, but I did have difficulty keeping myself concentrated on almost anything. Often, I'd have to have things repeated several times to me before I catch onto what is being said or done (I can recall during my freshman year in high school a friend emailed me saying that she got annoyed that I was always asking, "What?" a lot and she felt like I didn't pay attention to what anyone said and she hated repeating herself so much). I mostly was average in school, and I tended to do very well in reading and writing so I don't think anyone ever suspected that I have ADD or anything. I have a younger brother who's 9 years younger than me, and when he was about 7 or 8 I began to wonder if he had ADD so I began doing research on it, and that's when I began suspecting that perhaps I had it.

Yesterday, I forgot how I got to it, but I was reading up on ADHD and BPD and I began wondering if perhaps I have BPD as well. It's kind of freaking me out, but I don't know how to seek professional help, because I know I shouldn't be self diagnosing. I'm just wondering if anyone here can help me find the right places and people to help me out and do legit diagnosis on me.

And before anyone can ask about my parents...my parents grew up in small farms and then refuge camps before coming to America as teens. They don't speak English well and aren't highly educated so even if they suspected that I or my brother might have been "different" from other kids, they'd want to keep it "in the family" rather than have everyone find out that their kids aren't normal. They didn't know that they should talk to the school administrators to find out how to help us out.
As for my brother, he's doing relatively well in school and will graduate this year. If I am able to get myself diagnosed, I might talk to my parents about having my brother diagnosed.

so Sword Art Online is finally over, and I watched every episode of that misogynistic crap because I was incessantly amazed by how each episode was worse than the previous one in terms of DNW.

But all I see around me is love for this garbage and Gary Kirito Godmod Stu and his waifu. Am I the only one who thought it was absolute tripe? Do my friends just have horrible taste in anime?

One of my pet peeves (out of many): how basically all the characters ignored the fact that the guy who coded the game was a mass murderer, and went on about his castles in the sand or someshit. I would never trust any bit of code that guy wrote ever again, personally.

Dear my, I keep falling in love with fandoms that do not exist.

I thought Murder Rooms would be the worst, but now I'm into Closing Time.

So I'm sitting here in my cold and draughty fandom corner reading Avengers and HP fanfiction, and I feel so lonely and abandoned. I didn't even make it to this year's Yuletide.

For some reason I find the popular stuff moderately boring. No, I do enjoy it - The Avengers, HP, Skyfall, TDKR, whatever - but I feel like there's no really complicated chemistry, the plots are simple, the relatioships are simple, the jokes make me smile... not laugh. I would like to get into something popular, but I seem to be utterly unable to.

I texted him this morning with I'm finished. Don't contact me again. He answered that I could avoid him but that we're still together. I'm prepared to contact authorities if it comes to that, but everyone around me says he'll give up if I just stop answering texts and calls.

I sent out a mass text to my friends and a few mutual friends telling them a brief summary of what he had done (things I didn't mention last post: he coerced me into giving him oral sex when I was in the middle of a panic attack) and that we were no longer together, so to not give him information on where I was and what I'd be doing.

If you poke fun at Justin Bieber or 1D or any other cis heterosexual pop culture figure by insinuating that they are gay, you are perpetuating homophobia. If you tack on a piece about the guy actually being a girl/having a vagina, you’re contributing to trans*phobia.

Bolded part relevant. Basically, I was wondering why it was transphobia to imply a boy is a girl rather than femalephobia (that would be misogyny? sexist??) since isn't the statement going "Bieber is less of a man therefore he is a girl which is negative"?
Or can it be both? Or is there overlap?
Is it something else?

Strange family traits that have skipped you

Last Wednesday my nephew swallowed a penny. (Here is his x-ray with Lincoln at his throat. Don't worry. It's out and he's back to being his never ending ball of energy five year old self.) Thing is, when his mother, my sister, was his age, she swallowed a quarter. Apparently, swallowing money is a family trait that has skipped me.

So, what weird family traits does your kin have and have they skipped you? And are you grateful that they have?

Rant about Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel

My mom loves watching Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel each Christmas. Which, in the past I didn't mind.

But over the past few years there's been at least FIVE different movies with the same fucking message. If a woman is offered a once in a life time opportunity for her job, she has to give it up because ~family is more important~, or ~family is what REALLY brings you happiness~. Oh and it gets worse. If she takes up the job offer she's portrayed as a heartless bitch, and eventually she realizes she's not TRULY happy at her dream job! She changes her mind, and in the end comes running back to the man she loves and becomes a housewife.

These movies have really skeevy underlying messages and I'm fucking sick of them.

How much do you spend on a present

I typically go for around 15-20 bucks but I see people sending 50 dollars or more on their friends and I'm just surprised. Maybe I'm just a cheapass I mean I would get it if it was for your family but wow, wish I had that much money.

Same, around 15-20.. I wish I could spend more and give more presents but they know I can't afford it. Hopefully next year I'll be able to afford it, even though it's not the amount of money you spend on a gift that really makes it. It's the thought behind it.
