What are some characters who you feel get unfairly bashed in fandom? Either bashed harder for their flaws than they deserve, or bashed for reasons that don't make sense, or bashed because they get in the way of ship/whatever.

Question about Tumblr

There's been a little bit of discussion about Tumblr over the last couple days, and some people have been very critical about it, so I wanted to make a thread to ask people who are really down on Tumblr where they're coming from. To be clear here, I'm not particularly committed to Tumblr and I don't really use it myself, I'm just curious where people are coming from.

In particular I have two questions:

1) what are your major issues with Tumblr as a platform? Not quality of life things, not annoyances with fandom people, but really major issues you have with the service.

2) why do you think fandom adopted Tumblr so widely and totally, if Tumblr is so bad?

What story's premise do you like, but you hate the execution?

Are there characters that you don't mind seeing bashed?

I've realized that for me it all depends on how interesting the bashed version of the character is. I've read some Dumbledore bashing fics because I can get into the manipulative chess master thing people do with him. But psychotic Ginny who was feeding Harry love potions just bores me.

July book club update/announcements

Hey all!

Was wondering when you wanted to discuss Para Handy for July!

I am willing to try doing it on a Sunday again, though I did not feel that turnout was any better than weeknights. If we did that it would be the 31st. I will have to double check this date; it's my sister's bday but I don't think she has plans (we're celebrating both hers and mine this weekend so there won't be formal family plans that day). If we did a week night it would probably be the Mon/Tues/Wed (not yet sure which) after the 31st. Please comment with which day would work better for you if you are reading the July book and plan to participate in the discussion!

Also, quick reminder: we are reading His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik for September!

I generally have plans for Tuesday and Wednesday nights, there's something I need to do either this Sunday or next, so the sooner I know the better so that I can plan around it.

(The advantage of a short story collection is, even if I don't finish ALL of them, I can discuss the ones I've read, yay!)
