That secret from yesterday made me curious. Do you have an opinion on the West Memphis Three in terms of innocence or guilt? OP of that secret, 'fess up. Why do you think Echols is involved? It seemed pretty clear to me that they weren't involved and that it was a blatant case of police incompetence and corruption because satanic cults don't actually exist and anyone who thinks they do has a few screws loose.

It also seems pretty clear to me that they weren't involved, considering there's zero evidence that ties them to the case, and the "satanic ritual abuse" that was done to the bodies later turned out to be caused by animals post-mortem. IMO, the town is full of a bunch of ignorant hicks that were automatically afraid of anything "different" and either the police felt pressured to close the case and latched onto the most convenient scapegoat.

I think Terry Hobbs seems like the most likely person to have done it, or at least is involved, given that his DNA was found on the bodies. A theory I've seen is that he got pissed at Stevie and accidentally went too far in "disciplining" him, killing him accidentally, and then killed the other two because they were witnesses. I'm not saying that's what I think happened for sure but it sounds plausible.

Also, on the night of the murders a guy covered in blood and mud showed up at a fast food restaurant. Employees at the restaurant called the police but the evidence they collected from the bathroom where he went to clean up was supposedly lost, and they were never able to figure out who he was.

It just seems to me like the investigation was totally botched from day one.

Changing a Character for an Adaption

So, if a book/comic/etc. is being turned into a movie/TV/etc., some changes have to be made to make the movie/TV/etc. any good.

If your fandom is being adapted and you have a favorite character, what are the traits that have to remain or the adaption will fail for you? What changes could you live with or do you think couldn't be translated well?

(For instance, I liked Elrond for his kindness/compassion and Faramir because he wasn't tempted, so the movies failed those two characters. Etc.)

I think it's for the best to leave genderbending and racebending to the fanfic writers. I didn't like Elementary as a Sherlock Holmes adaptation and the less said about the live-action A:TLA, the better.

Well, have you seen Man of Steel? Yeah, that was 100% made of fail. There was not a single change that I thought needed done.

I like Enid Blyton's "Famous Five" novels and if one of them was moviefied, I'd support changing Aunt Frances' nickname, the younger Kirrin boy being referred to by his unshortened name, and the evil foreigners being whitewhashed so they could just be evil white villains.

If they changed the kids away from being Brits, George from being a tomboy into a girly-girl, even if it was a preppy girly-girl, or if they made Timmy anything other than a border collie; I'd go to old sparky rather than a movie theatre.

What are some books and books series of your childhood?

Does anyone remember The Plant That Ate Dirty Socks? I only read the first and second ones but I remember them being hilarious.

Or how about the Howliday Inn/Bunnicula series? I mean, mystery/suspense/horror novels with ANIMALS? That was just amazing. I really need to buy those books to reread.

Perhaps the biggest series I read was The Animorphs. I owned all the books at one point. It was such a brutal young adult series. Hunger Games ain't got nothing on the violence in The Animorphs.

I've been kind of wondering about this lately after coincidentally having a couple different conversations about it, and then coming across this article.

Do you guys think consensual incest is a thing that actually exists? It's something that I find interesting to read about but it sort of seems like one of those "only in fiction" type things to me. I guess if there were siblings who didn't grow up together and then met as adults and wanted to date or whatever because they don't see each other as siblings, that seems somewhat plausible. But for someone to just randomly decide one day as an adult (or even as a teenager) that they're romantically interested in their sibling seems pretty unlikely to me.

Like I said above, it's a topic I find interesting and something I've considered writing about before, but I'm just not sure it's all that realistic (although I suppose something doesn't necessarily need to be realistic to write a story about it). In the past I've disagreed with people who said incestuous relationships were always abusive even if they seemed consensual, but now I'm wondering if they're right, because how could something like that happen in a relatively "normal" family where there wasn't any abuse?

I don't know, I'm just kind of curious to see what other people think. Do you think it's possible for two siblings to actually have a consensual relationship? (I'm sticking to siblings for the sake of this discussion; parent/child is a whole other thing and a bit more of a black and white issue IMO.)
