i sent my application to my dream company a week ago and so far no reaction. i told myself i'd call after two weeks to check again but i've already kind of lost hope :(

i know that there's no way to tell when a company will react, but still. i sent it through someone who's in a big position there so i hoped i'd at least get a note saying i was rejected or something :(

MediCal Coverage

Anyone from California have some experience with MediCal? I'm about to age out of my father's health insurance and I'm unemployed (for reasons that are both economic and health-related), so I'm pretty sure I qualify. But what's confusing me is how I'm supposed to answer the "how many in your household?" question. If I saw three and put down what my father makes, I don't get ay options. But my mother and father are both covered by Dad's insurance and I'm the one with virtually no income. So can I say that I'm a household of one even if I'm living with my parents?

Little canon backstories (or future foretellings/implications) that bug you?

For me, it bugs me that Torchwood kind of made atheism canon. I have absolutely nothing against atheism, it would bug me just as much if everyone went to heaven or everyone was reincarnated. I just don't like an afterlife philosophy being spelled out, I guess.

Also, the backstories for the characters we get in season... two, I think don't make sense when you think of who they were when we met them in season one. It felt like serious retconning, honestly.

Just something I thought of after playing some video games where every character had an affinity for fire or water or whatever. Don't take this seriously.

For me . . . I know this is cliche, but I'd have to say darkness. I love starlight, I love full moons, and I love the way shadows look at sunset. My concept of whether something is beautiful has a lot to do with the shadows around it. (This makes it hard to get in the mood for horror games--the shadows are supposed to scare me, but they feel like a comforting place to hide and not be seen.)

I'm just pissed that Tatiana Maslany (from Orphan Black) was overlooked again. What does that woman have to do to be recognized besides playing a dozen different, clearly distinguishable characters and acting opposite herself flawlessly?

Stress induced toothache?

Yesterday I asked about having a toothache and no insurance. I have not made a dentist's appointment yet (looking for one). But I am wondering if it could be stressed induced fake pain? It stops hurting as soon as I get occupied with something else. It does not hurt when I tap it (even with metal) and it is no more sensitive than usual. Also, sometimes it stops hurting and other teeth hurt (like ones on the other side).

Now, my week has been stressful (and only getting moreso). I was the person whose mother guilted me into helping her pay for my family to visit ($500). Then I got a medical bill for $200 a couple days later.

Now this is happending and I have been sort of stressed over my teeth for a while (i was able to go to dentist 2 months~ ago). And I know I need some work but have been saving up money to go (which is now gone bcuz of all this).

So could this be in my head? I know I have some sinus headache symptoms, so I don't know if I had pain from that, thought it was my tooth, and started obsessing over it and now I think it hurts. How long can I safely wait to see if that is the problem?

bad managers thread

holy shit, I am so mad.

I just got back from work, more than an hour early, because my manager sent me home.

I really dislike this particular manager and have since he transferred to our store months ago. He's extremely self-important, controlling, micro-managing, overbearing, and occasionally (though not usually) a little creepy. He seems to feel the need to control EVERYTHING in his environment and is constantly telling me how to do jobs I've been doing for months. Today I got placed on front line for the first time in more than a year (I usually work drive thru), which really threw me off, and I made a major error when counting my drawer (for the first time ever) and overdropped by almost $15. I got the error sorted out and accidentally left my money drawer on the counter. I get that this is a terrible thing to do and if I'd caught it or if it had been pointed out to me I would have been very embarrassed and abashed. But instead of just telling me, my manager walked into the office where I had just finished entering my numbers and yelled. He gave me the third degree with (in hindsight) a real vibe of "if I pound this message in as hard as possible she'll never forget it". I was upset and shaken and started to cry after he walked out, and needed a few moments to collect myself. Unfortunately, he came back in before I was done and asked why I wasn't cleaning, and when I said I was going to in a minute he started going off on me with "you need to stop being so sensitive!" which really pissed me off and, unfortunately, I looked him in the eye and told him not to talk to me that way, which was probably a really stupid thing to do, but I was basically at the end of my rope with him. He sent me home immediately with threats to call the GM (which he probably did anyway) and I am now terrified that I'm going to be canned or something and I have to work with this same manager tomorrow fuck my life

(note that I'm a pretty good worker, have never gotten into this kind of conflict at this job, like and respect my other managers, and have never been written up or otherwise given any kind of warning or talking-to for anything at this job. so this is kinda out of the blue and I'm really hoping my GM doesn't just take his word for what happened without talking to me about it first. GM seems like a decent guy, but I rarely work shifts with him so I don't know him very well.)

(also note that I think I'm PMS-ing, so that probably made me more inclined to get upset and cry. but this is the kinda guy who would have just said "ugh, women" or something if I'd told him that. he is really an asshole)

please commiserate with me by sharing your stories of awful managers and co-workers :(

advice about dating?

so I actually have a date with a guy on Saturday. We're going out to dinner in the city he lives in (about an hour from where I live but I was already going to be there to visit my parents), and I'm looking forward to it.

the problem is, at the end of the night, I have no idea how to indicate "this was awesome, I definitely want to keep dating, but nothing additional is happening tonight." The only previous date I've ever had was kind of a disaster (we went to his place for movies, it ended up with really bad sex. grad school is not the ideal environment for starting dating, let's just say), so experience is zero help there. Can I just say, "hey this was awesome, let's do something next weekend, but I have to get home before I start to fall asleep on the highway?"

also I'm pretty sure I'm overreacting about this, you don't need to tell me that, but I'm fucking 26 and this is the second dude I have ever dated and I am wildly out of my depth. Any advice would be helpful.
