I'm not big on the movies but I love a lot of the EU. Besides, I feel like as far as 'superfandoms' go Star Wars is not really that...active? You can always find someone to argue with you about lightsaber construction and there's plenty of fic out there, but if you're not into the canon it doesn't do you any good. You'd do better with a small active fandom you truly like, I'd think!

Anyway, NGL, this doesn't sound any more ridiculous to me than the majority of standard religious practices and beliefs. In fact, it strikes me as the sort of thing a lot of religious/somewhat religious people could secretly believe in. God must have some means of letting his followers know he's there and he's guiding them (well, a caring, omniscient God); how's media bad for this purpose?

There are definitely aspects of Marie's behavior that are bothersomely grating, but I think she redeemed herself in S5.

Why it creeps me out is that

1) I expect she grew up hearing all kinds of stories about the woman her aunt loved. I expect there are war movies about the epic romance between Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter. Books, comics, t-shirts, a Funko Pop toy series. So it seems weird to want to get with the man your aunt loved dearly.

I'd be just as creeped out in real life if somebody broke up with a woman and then started dating her daughter. Regardless of whether they knew each other previously or not.

2) The thought of people encouraging Steve to go for her is just weird. "Yeah, you know that woman you loved? The woman who you still visit in the hospital? Here is her niece for you to hook up with. I mean...she is BASICALLY Peggy Carter! Just more blonde and younger. It is like Carter version 2.0! Don't mind the pictures of Peggy staring at you while you try to make out with Sharon in her living room."

That movie made me so uncomfortable I couldn't even finish it. Everything that was supposed to be funny was either disturbing or depressing.

I just realized how long it's been since I've given my speech about how I like both The Hunger Games and Battle Royale for different reasons. The rip-off complaint used to bug me so much when the movies were first coming out, not because I'm really defensive of THG, but because of the shallow way originality is judged.

I think it's a difference between book-fen and show-fen. Like Game of Thrones people who are mainly interested in the books are like "Eww, Jorah Mormont," whereas show people are like "HELL yes you charming bastard, I ship it so hard". Graham McTavish is a sexy sexy Scottish man-bear with a sexy Scottish beard and a sexy Scottish voice, and wanting to see more of him in a romantic context is totally reasonable in my book.
