Apparently people think I'm very highbrow, and they're partly right. I do love what I guess people consider to be highbrow too, but sometimes it's just really relaxing to watch some over the top drama queens making a big deal out of nothing. It gives my brain a break from everything else going on.

Things You Are Sick of Hearing About

What are some shows/movies/topics that are tired of hearing so much about (whether or not you love or hate the subject in question)?

Today on three podcasts I listened, they talked about Star Wars for at least 20 minutes each time. This would be less annoying if one them was not a World of Warcraft podcast. I fear the publicity machine and hype will make me despise the movie before I see it (I'm not a huge fan but some friends are).

I have also been sick of hearing about the Apple Watch. Apparently, all the podcasts I listen to have Apple fans. I now know far more about that watch than I'll ever need to know (especially for one who does not own a single Apple product).

Emotional intelligence

I was reading one of the blogs I follow, and the writer answered a prompt asking what kind of curriculum would be suitable for a class to develop a person's emotional intelligence. This was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw that question.

"Does anyone beside me find the idea of teaching emotional intelligence in schools to be a really unsettling thought?"

I'm curious to see if anyone thinks emotional intelligence can/should be taught in school. If so, how? If not, what makes you think this isn't an idea worth pursuing?

"Flash in the pan" Fandoms

Earlier today on Tumblr, someone I follow reblogged a thing about the Lorax, which I haven't heard anything about or seen anything from it in, like, forever.

(For those who didn't witness it, the fandom that sprung up around 'The Lorax' -or rather, the Once-ler- back in 2012 was this incredible tidal wave-esque that came out of nowhere, dominated pretty much everything for the better part of the year, then seemingly vanished like the Dwemer at Red Mountain)

So this got me to thinking... what other fandoms just sprung up out of the blue and then, perhaps after a brief yet intense time period, suddenly disappeared? Because this kind of stuff just plum fascinates me sometimes.

The only other one I can think of is 'Rise of the Guardians', but that's pretty much lived on in the form of Jack Frost/Elsa crossover shipping and Jack in that homogenous pablum 'Rise of the Brave Frozen Tangled Dragons' crossover.

Question about autism and.... not sure what the correct term is

So I have a question... a while ago I was out with an acquaintance, who is autistic. I'm not sure what the polite term is, but essentially something happened that sent her into a lot of distress when we were at a store; she screamed so loud at first I thought something life-threatening had happened (literally, I was ready to call for help when I realized she was just upset), and then she kept swearing. Once she calmed down she was fine, even made a tiny joke about it (though I could tell she was also humiliate).

In the future, is there anything I can do in such a situation? I didn't want to trigger her further, but I'm not sure whether I could have helped.
