Okay, I did this late yesterday and it was fun, so I thought I'd do it again while we have everyone streaming in. I would like to see what sort of questions we can get this time.

So, for those who missed yesterday's post; Do you have a question about something dealing with a different country other than your own but have been too afraid to ask because you thought the question was too stupid?

Then this thread is for you. Have you always wanted to ask an American what exactly is the difference between a hillbilly and a redneck? Do you want to ask a Brit, just what is "Boxing Day?" Then ask.

The only thing I ask of you is to be polite. Nothing bigoted or vicious. Just genuine questions of curiosity.


I'll start;

I've always wondered, in your country (no matter what is) what sort of impressions do people do for fun? Here in the states, guys like to break out their Christopher Walken or their JFK. These are the go to impressions if you do anything. And, yes, even girls will break out in a JFK (or some Mayor Quimby version of him) because it's funny. "CLAM CHOWDAHH!!!!"

So, who is fun to do in your country?

I had my summer ruined because my back has small spots, like I have back-Acne or something. It doesn't hurt or itch, and I never had acne on my face so maybe I literally have back-Acne..

I cant afford to go ask a doctor right now, since it's nothing important (unless when it comes down to me wearing any dress, because I'm sure as not showing my back to the world). I was wondering if any of you had natural remedies or know of tips to take care of that?

I added a new chapter to one of my fics last night (so, nearly 20 hours ago at this point). It still hasn't been bumped up to the top of my fandom's main page - it's sat near the end of the first page right now, as it was before I posted the update, and the information visible on the main page says there's still only 4 chapters, not five. If you click on it, it says five, and if view my profile, it also says five. I tried clearing my cache. I tried logging out. I also notice that the hitrate is very low compared to what would be usual for an updated fic in this fandom so I assume it's not just my browser that's having a problem.

I feel really, really whiny and entitled and like I'm just begging for attention here but I feel so frustrated by this. :(

Question for Bi/Pan People

So, I'm a bi/pan/whatever you want to call it girl. I have never been able to fully understand how people can be only attracted to one gender (is monosexual the word for that? IDK). Like, how does that work? My brain just isn't wired that way or something.

So, my question is: do other bi/pan people feel this way as well? Does it confuse you, too, just a little? Or am I just weird? (that is a distinct possibility, I know)

Sorry if this comes off as rude/offensive in some way, I'm not entirely sure how best to phrase the idea, y'know? I tend to think of it as the equivalent of people who don't entirely get how bi/pan people can be attracted to more than one gender, which is an idea I'm very familiar with people expressing towards me, so.

I have a fandom friend I think is awesome. Smart, funny, writes some of the best fic in the fandom, etc. But she's got severe depression, and... usually it's not a big deal to me but lately she's really having trouble and won't stop posting really gloomy, sad, or (not saying this to be mean to her; I know she can't entirely help it) whiny things. Over and over.

Like the moment anyone posts anything to Tumblr about feeling embarrassed or insecure, she reblogs with two paragraphs about what that's like for her. Or she'll reblog something meant to be inspiring and rant about why it's clearly wrong. I don't mean pointing out negative assumptions about mental illness. I'd be cool with that. I mean turning anything and everything into something about her mood and her stuff, multiple times daily, when she used to post something like that to LJ much less frequently and under cuts so I could skip over it.

Like I said, I think she's an awesome person with a mental health issue, not a jerk trying to whine. I've always tried hard to be patient with her struggle. But she never used to bring it into EVERY conversation and shit on people ANY TIME she catches them saying positive things.

I'm at the end of my patience. I don't want to lose my cool with her. But I also worry that, if it's driving me away and I think she's made of win, what's it doing to everyone else?

Do I say something? Do I unfollow her quietly (and hope she doesn't take it as One More Blow Proving She Sucks)? Do I just try to ignore it? I know it's not intentional and she probably doesn't even know she's doing it, but it's seriously getting ridiculous.

Question on sexuality- bi/pan/demi

So, I've only recently been introduced to the idea that there is more than straight, bi, gay in the sexuality spectrum and I'm just wondering what is the practical difference between bisexuality, pansexuality and demisexuality? I apologise if this is offensive but I'm curious to know how people who are bi/pan/demi/etc would differentiate themselves and how they came to know their sexuality.

I'll give it a shot based on what I've gleaned from other people and everyone can feel free to correct me

I think that the difference between bisexuality and pansexuality is that bisexuals are often defined as just being attracted to males and females while pansexuals say they are also attracted to people outside of the gender binary. That's generally the distinction I've seen anyway.

Demisexuals say they are unable to feel sexual attraction to someone unless they know them very well first (which seems like it could apply to a whole lot of people anyway but wtf do I know). Someone else feel free to elaborate on this one.

I must say, I don't consider my internet friends 'real' friends... but that's totally a personal thing and not a judgement call on people who do. I've met loads of lovely, intelligent, hilarious people over the internet but it's no replacement for face-to-face contact for me.

However, OP, if you do consider these people your real friends- which they clearly are if you care about their pain and you make an effort to help them- then I fail to see where the problem is tbqh. AND you seem to have a good balance of RL friends too, so it's not like all your social life is coming from the internet either.

Comic Recs?

So, I've been trying to get into comics. So far, a friend introduced me to Deadpool, which I really really got into. I'm also enjoying Journey into Mystery.

I'd like to know what are other good Deadpool titles. I'm also looking into reading some Doctor Strange comic but don't know where to begin.

Also, I'm looking to broaden my reading. It doesn't have to be Marvel. Though, if you need specifics, I enjoy action with a a bit of comedy. I'm not to fond of romance, but I'll read it if it's party of the story. I don't mind grim/dark, but I'm not to fond of it. As far as action, I don't mind the setting be it magical, mystical. etc.

Though, I will say I'm not into reading Spider-man since my ex bff talked about it so much and made him topic of every conversation that I don't want to hear about Spiderman anymore.

For action with a bit of comedy, I'd recommend Batgirl Volume 3 (the series from just before the DC re-boot with Stephanie Brown as Batgirl). It only ran for a couple of years before the re-boot happened, so I think there's only about two dozen issues.

There's also Blue Beetle Volume 2, which ran from 2006-2009 and has been collected in *counts stuff on shelf* five trades. It's also pretty funny and has a great supporting cast - the main character's family and best friends actually know he's a super hero. The begining of the series is a little confusing because the character doesn't actually get his start there, but earlier in a DC crossover event. I never read those comics, but I still managed to understand the initial Blue Beetle storyline.
