I just watched a couple of '70s movies and I REALLY like those flared jeans and the men's shaggy long hair and big sideburns. I also really think flared jeans are an incredibly good fit for the body type of the average male human being, provided they're not too huge.

Feel free to whinge yourself, FS.

Mine is this: I've lost contact with my best friend for years--it's not that strange for us, actually, to not talk for months or years, because we're in different cities (islands) and we're always have a 'just come talk to me when you have the time' kind of relationship. We were by each other's side when we went through rough patches of our lives, though (her when her dad lost his job, mine when my dad was diagnosed with cancer made my depression worse) and she means a lot to me.

A few months a go I wanted to talk to her but found that her number's not working, I thought maybe she changed her number. Close Friend B said--why not message her from Facebook? Now, I don't have Facebook, so I couldn't, but I asked Close Friend B to just tell her I wanna catch up. B said she'll check her friendlist (or the equivalent on Facebook) and when she came back to me she said 'I've messaged her. Oh yeah, it looks like she's married now, and she has a baby too'

I'm rather speechless that I didn't know, and that I'm not invited, I'm left wondering if she doesn't see me as a close friend as I see her, or if she thinks I'm not a good presence in her life? The facebook message B sent hasn't been replied, and I don't want to nag, so I'm just here on FS confused and a bit hurt.

Do you ever resent fictional characters?

I see characters (especially asshole characters) who are surrounded by friends and family and people who care about them, and I resent them. I feel as though I am not an asshole and I've never done anything horrible like them, but I don't have any friends and my foster family has washed their hands of my existence.

It feels petty and completely irrational since they are fictional, but I guess that's my only reference. Do you ever resent fictional characters, if not for these reasons, then for others?

We all know that "art/arthouse/auteur games" occupy their own level of categorization regardless of their genre -- everything from Ico (action-adventure/puzzle) or Silent Hill 2 (survival horror) to more recent stuff like Kentucky Route Zero (point and click adventure/love letter to bygone eras of computing) or Spec Ops: The Line (third person shooter/remake of Apocalypse Now/savage critique of Call of Duty and similar tacticool manshooters).

What are some games you can think of that deserve to be called "art games" that most people wouldn't really think of in those terms? (I'm sure some of the ones I already listed might qualify...) As an example I posit that Marathon would meet that definition. Gameplay-wise it's little more than a slower-paced Doom with the story told through terminals you must find and read, but the series has always had a philosophical bent (there's a lot of Greek mythology references throughout the trilogy, and Durandal's rants are entertaining to read) and the third one's plot goes completely mindbending and meta with a lot of reality warping and time travel due to a Lovecraftian monstrosity that's entirely offscreen. (I've also seen quite a bit of influence in Portal as well as the famous Half-Life 2 mod Minerva: Metastasis.)

Any others? Something that takes conventional gameplay or plot tropes and turns them on their head.

I mean, Michael Fassbender is accused of something somthing criminal: Scum Forever! Kill Hiiiim.
Lena Dunham admits to something possibly criminal: No, it's a totes misunderstanding, she didn't rape anyone, she is still a boootyfull pure queen.

I mean, maybe as a straight cis white guy I am more sensitive to this than I need to be, but it seems that women can get away with much worse in the eyes of tumblr types than men.

Patreon and a gender question

Does anyone use Patreon and could you help me out with something I couldn't figure out from its FAQ?

There's someone I want to support, but I essentially live as one gender online and my assigned gender offline. Obviously I don't have payment info with my online persona, for lack of a better word. If I make an account using my online name as the username, will the person I'm supporting be able to see my real name and shipping/payment info?

Because I want to support them as they know me, but I don't want my "other" life to get out.
