Transcript: I used to be part of a fandom aimed at people much younger than me. I found a group of fans my age.

We had a chip on our shoulder about how we were so much more mature and intelligent than everyone else in the fandom. I wish I could say I was above that b.s. but honestly... I was not.

Then I started to notice something. Most of us were unemployed or stuck in shitty retail jobs. Most didn't have many friends outside the group. All of us were single. Some were university drop outs.
All of us were unhappy. And yet...

We felt superior because we thought we were better than a bunch of tween fangirls.

It made me question why I'm part of fandom.]

Mystrade! I love Mystrade. Is there even still a Mystrade fandom at this point though? I wrote a huge fic for Mystrade and never posted it because the fandom all but died.

I agree, and this is one of the reasons I've been reluctant to join fandoms as of late. It's like walking on eggshells because you're afraid you're gonna end up offending someone, or worse, being seen as someone who is offensive. It also ends up making the fandom involved look bad, but that's not hard considering haters are ready to trashtalk the fandom they hate.

In recent months, I've found myself growing increasingly tired of vague secrets that don't name the fandom/ship/etc.

Most especially when there's no indication that the fandom is small or that OP would be recognized. Why not name it?

S!B: I've lurked since 2009. This isn't a new trend. Why is it only bothering me now? (Less discussion & f!s "anonymity," I think, but still.)

One of the authors I follow would post a link to a "suggested listening" song at the beginning of their story/chapter. She then managed to rickroll all her readers, at least once, but still, you could try that?

I can’t figure out why fandom artists have such a hard time drawing armpit hair. Especially when they draw pubes on the same drawing! Is it gross to them? Do they imagine most guys (and girls, but not drawing armpit hair on modern girls make more sense) regularly shave anyway?
