How much does your little furbeast conform to stereotypes?

Are they really cold, aloof, uncaring creatures who will sit on whatever you're working on? Or is it all propaganda? My current shitlord animal acts more like a dog stereotype: he plays fetch, he growls if there's a stranger at the door, he follows me from room to room all day, and he begs for food constantly.

I'm curious to know what other people's experiences are.

I've never had a stereotypical cat in my life, and sitting on whatever you're working on is a valuable service they provide so you don't have to reach very far to pet them. All my cats have been super affectionate and playful. My feral-born boy is actually very needy and gets terribly dramatic when I won't sit down or won't sit the right way for him to cuddle me, lol.

My cats are so good-natured and never bite, play a lot, and meow at me often. On the other hand they also fight eachother sometimes and hide when there are visitors. They come out sometimes if it's just one person. And yeah, they're super lazy and sleep a lot.

Not at all. Though I might be a bit biased because I had cats almost my entire life, so I mostly think those cold/unfeeling stereotypes are total bullshit.

I mean, sometimes my cat sits on something I want to use (like my laptop keyboard), but if I pull her down from it once, she usually is content to sit next to me. But what I really don't get is the cold and unfeeling thing, because when my cat comes back after some hours outside, she is definitely in need of affection. And I by that I mean mutual affection: when I pet her she will also push her head against me, lick my hand, etc.

Everyone is welcome to ask questions/share their own experiences (positive or negative). I know there's a fair number of us here but don't feel pressured to participate if you don't want to. :)

Since there have been a couple of secrets about how uncomfortable this makes some people recently, I thought maybe I'd offer my own experience on the subject if people had any questions. Obviously I'm not an expert, but I'm not easily offended at all. It's May so it's awareness for EDS month too.

If your own response needs a trigger warning I guess wait for things to collapse a bit? I'm not great at dreamwidth.

And, I mean, that's part of it. But it's so not the crux of the film. It was still a great movie, though.

Book club - June poll closed; May discussion date

The results are in: the book for June is Dragon Thief by S. Andrew Swann! Please be aware that this is the sequel to Dragon Princess, which book club read some time ago (I think not long after I first started organizing it? but I do not remember the month) and which was very enjoyable. There is also a third book in the trilogy, Dragon Wizard, and I'd like to request that no spoilers for Dragon Wizard be included in the discussion for Dragon Thief (a separate spoiler-marked subthread is okay).

The May discussion date is, tentatively, the last day in May - Tuesday the 31st. If anyone has a preference between that day and Wednesday the 1st, today is the last day to let me know! Otherwise I will put it on my calendar and may make other plans for the 1st. We are reading Maurice by E. M. Forster. All are welcome to join the discussion! If you'd like to discuss the book at any intervals before the final date, feel free to make a book club thread (if there isn't one already) below Games, and mark it for whatever chapter you're up to to avoid unwanted spoilers.
