Irrational annoyances

So, this has been bugging me for a few hours, and I told myself that if I were still thinking about it now, I'd post about it. But it's really irrational, so thread.

I saw someone refer to Cupid in the SPN episode My Bloody Valentine as being queer-coded, and he didn't appreciate the baiting. I disagree, but that he sees it that way is not terribly surprising or bothersome.

The irritating part is the commenter who said they "never noticed the queer-coding." The. Not "any - THE. And I just can't shake my annoyance at this "so you have said it, so it must be" attitude. Ugh.

What should I use for a laptop case sticker, F!S?

I'm thinking something Transformers-based, but I'm not sure which of the faction symbols to go with. I'm also up for suggestions of most other fandoms that have any sort of recognizable insignia (listing them would take forever). The vinyl cutter I'm working with can only do one color (more are technically possible, but seriously complicated), and I'm limited by space to about 3x3 inches or smaller. Any ideas? Thanks!

Japan cracking down on anime/manga pirating

The list is huge, with pretty much all manga providers being targeted for shutdown. Needless to say, people who use them are not happy at the moment. I think it's perfectly understandable-they want to make money of of their products.

Random old fandom websites you remember

Do you ever just randomly remember an old fandom website that stuck out to you for one reason or another? For me it was this website for Slayers, and in it the OP went on a long rant about how Lina Inverse was not, in fact, a red head as people claimed, but instead a brunette.

Obviously.

Now, I don't know if this website was made pre-anime, or if there was a point in time where Lina was a brunette, but I ran into the website after watching the anime where she was clearly a redhead, and that's really why is still sticks out to me, because of how over the top it was in defending the purity of a brunette Lina Inverse.

Anyone else have an old fandom website that sticks out for any reason?

The most evil character ever

I just finished reading the LP of Dangan Ronpa, and it occurred to me about halfway through that I don't think I've ever seen a character more evil than Monokuma. There were at least three points where I thought "okay, he can't possibly get any more evil than this," and he topped all of them.

I'm not just talking about degree of atrocities, though that can certainly be a factor. Monokuma exists to make other people suffer, does so brilliantly and without restraint, never passes up a chance to twist the knife, and has no redeeming characteristics at all. I've seen characters who did far worse things (like Dellyn Goblinslayer in Goblins: Life Through Their Eyes), but Monokuma manages to feel personal and large-scale at the same time, hurting people in specific and personalized ways, but doing so to anyone and everyone he can.

Who do you think is the most evil character you've seen or read about? What makes you choose that character?

Most people think of unmet standards in appearance being a dealbreaker, but there's way more out there than that. What's one dealbreaker to you that dissipates any desire to date someone no matter how cool their personality is. Can be related to job position, financial status, education status, etc.

I think this exact same discussion happened here on FS a few months ago, but here's my take on it:

Penny *doesn't* have good social skills or emotional intelligence. She doesn't. She deals with minor conflicts by kicking and punching people, she's unable to support herself without asking Leonard or Sheldon for a large loan, she seems to barely be performing the basic functions of everyday life: paying for food, cleaning her apartment, paying bills, maintaining her car. It doesn't take a math geek to do those things; your average sixteen-year-old could do them.

**She depends on men for both emotional and financial support.** Is that the M.O. of a socially adept, emotionally healthy, savvy type of person who is skilled at playing the game of life?

Prior to the introduction of Amy and Bernadette, Penny seemed to have no real friends or confidantes whatsoever. Once or twice, she had groups of people come over to watch a ballgame and drink, but we never, ever saw her have meaningful one-on-one interaction with a close friend.

This show keeps on telling us that Penny is the psychologically normal one, but what we're shown is that she's rude, angry, lazy, aggressive, irresponsible, violent, and cruel.

The guys have issues, certainly, but Penny's the only one who is dysfunctional.

The idea that's she's "the relatable one" or that she's the designated audience self-insert boggles my mind.

Penny is one of the least likeable TV protagonists I've ever seen. And I say that as someone who *likes* the Seinfeld crew.

The idea that Penny "introduces the nerds to the real world" is ridiculous and offensive. Drinking, fighting, and being intentionally under-employed are "the real world"? All of the characters on this show have done questionable stuff, but the guys are seeking knowledge and contributing to society while Penny is breaking people's faces and refusing to pay for a plate of noodles.

If Penny has all this social finesse and emotional insight, then where are her other friends, why doesn't she use those skills to improve her own situation, and why does "resentful and grouchy" seem to be her default mood?
